I've read an AWFUL lot of posts on here that say JP 'helped' so many. Who are they? I can't find any posts where he gives advice on how to use an Olympus camera. So how's he helped people? If he's helped you, give us a link to the post and prove me wrong. I'd like to read it.

You go find me an abundance of posts where he's helped you get the best from your gear and not just 'helped' you buy it and I'll appologize profusely in 12 languages, etc.

I don't think the posts are out there but then I didn't do chapter and verse on his posting history.

There's something else you want to consider. You all 'clamour' for a guy who's breaking the rules yet bcos he hands out bribes to all and sundry, you are all willing overlook that fact.

Don't we all aspire for the rules to be applied fairly? Not just one rule for some and another for others.. don't we all want 'rules' to be applied without favour? I do!

From what I read on those other posts.. the narrow-mindedness is stagering... AND from so many!

Yet, it's the same names who 'decry' the owner when an Oly camera only gets a 'recommended'. You can't have it both ways! You can't have Phil 'bending under pressure' to accomodate a rule breaker one minute and then hold him up as the banner of sainthood the next. The fact the JP organised so much money to be donated to dpreview only muddies murky waters.

A last thought on the 'back bone' of the forum who has 'done so much for it'. I notice the up-and-running competition was scrapped when he was no longer able to post openly! It seems quid pro quo only goes so far!

There was something underhanded about the way he operated that I never wanted anything from him. 'free' gear from the goodness of his heart? Yeah right!

1. You've only been on this forum for 8 months or so...

2. You seem to be fixated on Jim Porter - why, we just don't know...

3. Your rants about Jim Porter make it increasingly obvious that you have a thing for him...in a negative way.

4. If you've been around long enough, you would have been part of the experiences we've shared on this forum with....er, "Jim Porter."

4. Is there some type of obessive envy going on here? Just asking...as it almost appears (perhaps, not necessarily so) that you may be a vendor who despises Jim's generosity on his forum....

5. So why don't you just please just leave this entire Jim Porter thing alone, unless of course you need to satisfy a particular form of angst tht you have concerning this individual. Hey, if you want to use the process of transference, just focus your negative energies on me as I certainly enjoy a good scrap. But do all of us a favor here...stop this pusillanimous behavior...please. Let's get back to talking about Oly products.

Hey, who loves ya in that special sort of way...I am beginning to!

He ran competitions, giving away free Olympus stuff at no cost, even to people half way around the world.

He was a good poster, who gave credit where it was due and constructive comments where necessary.

In general chatter, provided a good dose of Texas humour.

As a retailer (so not directly attributed to his online presents) he provided excellent service, amazing aftercare and down right, good prices.

And all you have provided/attributed to the forum isn't worth my (or anyone elses) time reading...

let go my friend. How did Jim help me? In one way he helped me by letting me and the forum know of upcoming rebates on lenses. These rebates ranged from $50 to $200. To me, $50 saved is worth delaying a purchasing decision by a few days.

Also, he was offering a photographic vest emblazoned with the E-1 logo on it. In order to get the vest, you donated a certain amount to Phils wen site here. The vest is great and cant be had anywhere close to the donation amount.

Then there were the photo contests. At the conclusion, he would print up the CDs and mail them out at his expense.

Did one have to buy from him in order to participate int he contest or get the CD at the conclusion? Absolutely not.

These are just some of the ways.

He rans 'give aways' so you lot wouldn't get upset at his blatant commercialism.
even to people half way around the world.
A customer is a customer no metter where he lives...

I may give you them two but who did he 'help'?

I wouldn't disagree...

well that's a nmatter of opinion.

'cause "Manic" needs to do this. There is something within his psyche that requires this. So let "Manic" rant...we certainly have an idea now as to his mindset, which ultimately makes it better to ignore him.

And as you may all have noticed, folks like "Manic" keep their profile completely confidential as they love the anonymity (if nobody knows who or what you are, you can say what you want). I'm am really loving this...keep on ranting Bro.

Jim loaned (as in sent from USA to UK) his own E1 kit, to a guy called Paul here in the UK for no fee, that was "NOT" for sale, and with "NO" promise of a deal, just so Paul coultd try one out, as they were in short supply over here at that time, all paul had to do was send it back after he had used it for a while.

I await the apologyto Jim, but I won't hold my breath while waiting.

So 'Saint' Jim sent his own E-1 to the UK! Was it done publicly? I wouldn't send my gear away as I use it. Sounds like good 'customer relations to me. But I'll withhold what i think till I read the thread.

Hey, I was serious... if you find me an abundence of Jims helpling others use their Olympus cameras better, I'll appologise.

Have you got a link for that?

Could nto find an E1 in town to try, and JP offered to send his to me to try out before I plunked down the bucks for a purchase..... with no obligation.

Don't recall getting such an offer eleswhere.....

I think I understand the point about "doing business on the forum" - I know I've gotten "flamed" for simply asking what a decent price might be for sale of a used item (on this forum)..... So to some degree, a double standard.... probably yes. The "sales latitude" that Jim took I think migrated over time (and Phil's as much to blame as anyone as he knowingly allowed it to proliferate..).

However.... is this a Jim Porter flaw - NO. Jim is as honorable and nice a person as I've ever dealt with (have dealt w/him in person and via mail order). Truly a stand up guy. Personally, I think we should be able to discuss prices, deals, etc. openly on the forum. Not sure what it hurts unless it violates a deal Phil has with his "paying advertisers"... and that could be. Bottom line - even for Phil - it comes down to dollars probably... It's a business and it is "Phil's Business" - sometimes he has an intersting way of letting forums know that.... :-)

As it was over two years ago, and Jim later gave that very camera (his own) away as a prize in a phot comp on here I don't feel I can be arsed to satisfy your indulgence, just apologize, you are wrong!

In response to the orignal poster's latest question on "done publically" or not....

In my case it was NOT done publically. It was done via an exchange of personal e-mails and telephone calls w/Jim. The forum never knew of it from either Jim or me (until now). That is just the kind of Guy he is.... and I might add - the company he used to own part of.

Well the it was public when done for Paul (?) as Jim either lost Pauls e-mail address, or Paul's PC went down or something, as Jim asked on here for someone to contact Paul when he needed his Camera back. Which as I said was later given away free in a photo comp on here.

Glad I never held my breath!

Sure, that'll make me believe you!

I notice there's no proof of that.

You all keep saying he's a good guy... all I see is a camera dealer cultivating his 'captive' audience.
