What Lens should i take to India?

Hi

I visited India with 18-70 and 80-200. In my opinion and for my style think a wide-angle wider then your 24 mm on digital is mandatory in India.

I carried with me two 1GB card and normaly they were enough for one day shooting. At the end of the day I downloaded everything on a card reader with hard disk.

Take at least two batteries: they finish always when you don't desire!.

Maybe you can add a 50 1.8 or another fast prime if you shoot in low light.

You can see some pics at

Hope this help

great photos. I will take a lot more time looking at them tonight. Is there any way i can get the EXIF data/ I am really interested in what lenses you used for each shot.

I'd bring another body; you have no redundancy in bodies and that's where you need it. That's your weak link. Get a D50 if you can.

As far as lenses are concerned: travel light. I think the kit lens, a 70-300, and a 50/1.8 would be good if you can afford it.

I would urge against traveling too heavy. When I was in India for two weeks back in 2000, I brought two SLRS, two zooms 35-70 & 75-200, 28, and a 60 Macro. I took most of my photos within 10 feet of my subjects; mostly of people. Used mostly 70mm and less focal lengths. My kit weighed about 8 pounds. That was plenty heavy to carry around all day and night for 2 weeks.

Thanks
I think you should be able to see the focal length on each picture.
Reminde I only used 18-70 and 80-200.

Sorry I dont understand re the redundancy in bodies?

Are you suggesting i get a D50 as well as my D70 ? but then i would have to carry even more.

I have now bought a 18-200 and will sell the 18-70 and 24-120 vr. as i believe it will serve my needs better and will be mre productive.

In India the camera is a magnet: it will draw groups of people, who will want their picture taking (shame is that some of them expect to see prints coming out of the camera!).

So, the lens isn't an issue - the people there are so warm and friendly.
