Aside from its archival proprieties, is there a great image quality difference between the 1280 and 2000P?
Is there a 2000P new model coming up?

Thanks
Jacob

Actually, the image quality of 2000P is a tad inferior than 1280 (from what's other users say). I own 1280 and did try mediastreet archival ink and very disappointed. Many users say the image quality is nearly match but it's a nature of pigment ink that you may see metamerism (color shift in different light) or narrow color gamut ( the original epson archival has overcome this claims, while the other 3rd party archival inks have not). The 2000p is also slower, the ink costs more (not much though), the dot is bigger (5 picolitre while 1280 is 4) - normally you wouldn't see that differences with naked eyes unless you magnify it.

Read a good review by Michael H. Reichmann at

he has both 1270/80 and 2000p

or Bob Meyer's review at

That's why I'm watching epson pro 5500 which has an excellent feature e.g. 3 picolitre, very fast printer and individual ink tanks

it's just too expensive and I just hope that there must be something between 2000P and 5500 in the near future.

Right now, I just pay more attention and money of how to protect my print from 1280. My experience from trying 3rd party archival has taught me that nothing good comes cheap.

Thanks for all this info Kui. It's just too bad that the image quality of the 2000p is actually inferior!!

I don't think the differences is at that bad though. I have a sample prints from 2000P, 5500. They look terrific for me. So if you do really need archival and can afford for $800, just go for it. There are many people out there happy with 2000P.

I get very good prints from my 2000P which are comparable to those from my 1270. If I put a print from each printer real close to my eye and look carefully, I might decide that the 1270 seems slightly better but under all reasonable viewing conditions, they both look very good. I do put a tad of unsharp mask (7%,radius=80,threshold=0) to my 2000P prints before printing. That is the only adjustment I do. Leon
