Hi, I'm thinking about buying the Kenko DG Teleplus Extension Tube Set for Canon eos mount. The question is, if these Kenko Extension Tubes are compatible not only with canon EF lens (non EF-S) but also with sigma lens like the AF 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC?

If not, what Extension Tubes can I buy for this set (350D&Sigma18-50mm f/2.8 EX)???

By the way does anyone have any experience with Extension Tubes, is there much light loss and image degradation?

Any EF extension tubes (including Kenko) are compatible with the Sigma DC lens, the only limitation concern Canon EF-S lenses.

I got my Kenko extension tube set just a couple of days ago, I hope I can give some answers.

Yes, it works (I have the 18-50EX), but there is really not much point using that lens with extension tubes. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 is cheaper than even the extension tubes and optically better than the Sigma zoom, especially because only about the 30-50mm range of the Sigma lens can be used even with the thinnest of those extension tubes (12mm). Anything below 30mm focuses inside the glass.

Probably you'll gain some magnification with decent quality if you keep at 50mm (not sure of the working distance though), but I didn't test more than the 12mm tube because I have the EF 50/1.8 and Tamron 90mm macro for my extension tube work. YMMV.

Light loss is proportional to the amount of magnification gained, can't remember the equation though. Image quality is dependent also on the amount of extension you use, and on the lens quality. Primes are (usually) better than zooms, and dedicated macro lens are the best of all. I can get good image quality with my Tamron macro and all of the tubes (68mm put together), but the 50mm f/1.8 begins to show corner softness and other aberrations. Extremely shallow DOF is the biggest problem still.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 with all of the Kenko tubes (68mm), that's my right index finger all right (no cropping)...:

Can't wait to give these babies something real targets to shoot. Shame it's winter and freezing outside.

Most brands will work with your lens.
I would go to a retailer and "test" to be sure.
Since the tubes are 100% glass free, there is no loss of light.

They do increase the magnification, therefore a tripod and cable release should be on your items to buy list with your tubes.
Enjoy the world of macro.
Good luck !!
