a new 100-400 L. The existing one is very good and I should be happy enough to have had one but..... it's not a "sweet" lens. Its kinda soft at 400 mm and it needs light! Look my kid plays soccer, the field is big ( a little too big for my 70-200 f/2.8 L IS ), i need more reach but i dont want to sacrifice quality..... I'll continue to buy your lenses anyway ( its addicitng - is their nicotine in the lenses ), but a new 100-400 L or even a 120-300 L f/2.8 ( like the one from Mr. / Mrs. Sigma ) would be so nice............

What's wrong with the one from Mr. Sigma? :-)

If you want to cover soccer games, I would like you to buy two bodies and use one with a 70-200 IS and the second one with the 300mm f/4L IS + 1.4x TC or the 400mm f/4 DO IS instead.

It appears you already have the solution.

If you use your 70-200L f2.8 IS with the 1.4L TC II you will have the reach and the speed to get your shots. If you need to get closer you can crop
into the shots and get what you want without another $1000 dent in your wallet.
Good luck !!

I'll settle for a 70-200 f/4L IS, if they ever release it. Oh, and mama & papa Canon, please put a weather seal on it this time; it's the only white zoom without one.

Anyone tried the Sigma 80-400 OS (a.k.a. "the Bigma")? From what I've seen it can at least hold its own next to the Canon 100-400 and it's the only 3rd party stabilised lens on the market I know of.
