Hi, first-timer to this board, and I would really appreciate your assistance. To make a long story short I bought this camera at an auction unintentionally (I'll never go back there!) for $160. If that wasn't bad enough, the back panel doesn't latch as the plastic latch mechanism is broken. So now I have a camera I didn't want that doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement back panel? My plan is to replace it and put it on ebay to try and recoup my money, so I can't spend much on a panel. It comes with a 21-35 mm lens and a 28-70mm lens, leather lens case, instruction guide and camera bag. Do I have any chance of recovering my $160 on ebay if I fix this camera, or am I wasting my time?? And is there a website where I can find used sigma camera parts at a reasonable price?? Thanks everybody!!!!

Check on E-Bay. I don't think that you can make that much unless the 21-35 is worth a lot. The camera isn't worth fixing.

Sorry to say so, but I wouldn't even bother. Although the SA-300 is a very good and highly underrated camera, you'll never recover $ 160.00 (unless prices in the US are very much higher than in Europe).

A good/near mint SA-300 with standard lenses (usually the 35-80 and 70-210) would do around € 60,00 in The Netherlands, even less in Germany. I'd try to sell the lenses separately and throw in the body for a bargain...

good luck,
Peter

I keep a watch on SA stuff on ebay because of lenses, and I happen to have an SA I got off eBay in fine condition for about $25. I think it is a great camera, but film is not so popular. You might get as much as $35 for it, without the lenses. That the back doesn't latch drives that down--probably to half...and maybe less.

You can probably get $40-$80 for the 28-70 (I assume it is not the EX), and maybe another $50-$80 for the 21-35 (an older, but sharp lens). So it might not be exactly $160, but you can get pretty close. I would sell all the parts separately.

Is the 21-35 AF? I was assuming yes. If not, price is a little lower.

I might give you $40 for the 21-35...So long as it is in good condition (zoom, aperture function smoothly and glass is clear and unscratched). I don't have any short-range zooms, and wasn't really in the market for one, but would be interested if it were cheap. I know that is below the $$ range I quoted, just thought I'd offer.

First of all, thanks to everyone who posted a response - what a resource this board is!! Secondly, I just took some pics of the panel, and will be sending it to the gentlemen who offered to dig through their inventory to see if they can help me. Lastly, you have all offered me some good advice, and I will consult with another friend and wait to see if a replacement panel is available before I decide on anything. Thanks again!!!
