Hi All

Could anyone please help me?

I have always had a point and shoot camera, and had some good snaps. I have recently used these to hang on the walls of my home. When blown up they lack colour and definition and I would like a new camera.

I have been advised to look at the Panasonic Lumix FZ30, Canon Powershot G6, Olympus S-8080 and the Fujifilm Finepix S9500.

I visited my local camera shop today and after informing them of my needs they demonstrated the Canon S2iS, Olympus SP500 and the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6.

I really liked the Konica but after reading the reviews on this site it has really put me off.

I really like photogarahy and I want to get into it further but need a camera to set me on my way.

Please help. Thank you.

think megapixals 5-8mpixal camera and the best printer you cant aford like a canon pixma IP8500 or 9900. prob with a P&s is you cant blow the photo up and still stay sharp unless its 5-8MP or more when printing

If you dont mind the size and price then also look at the Sony R1 - First compact digital with large sensor (and good quality lens). Otherwise decide between "superzoom" 10 to 12 optical zoom cameras versus compacts like the 7 megapixel Canon or Nikon range.

So it goes something like this:
1) Compacts 5-7 MP
2) Superzoom 5 MP
3) Prosumer 8-10 MP
4) DSLR

Of the cameras you mentioned, at the least, the G6 should be considered. My friend has one and gives good images. Also does RAW which have greater latitude in editing. Speaking of which, since you said the colors on your photos were not what you wanted, do you have an image editing application such as photoshop? Imaging editing can do a lot in improving the end stage printing of the camera's product. dpreview is a good place to use to study all aspects of photography and editing. Spend some time looking at the reviews and then go to the forums and read the comments of the folks who use these cameras to decide which you should purchase.

Hi

For what its worth, I'm very new to photography as well. I don't know what you want to spend but I can't fault the Fuji s5600 that I recently bought.

Good luck

Andy

mega pixals..5-8MP cameras in the prosumer class should help loads when printing..plus find the best printer you can aford like the Pixma IP8500 or 9900 from canon or.. the R800?not sure of that one..anyway its the lack of megapix that keep yer prints looking good..heck invest in a canon XT and 3 lenses from 17mm-200mm and youll be very happy
