I don't have one, so I don't know. Of course, any viewscreen is going to consume battery power more. But these newer Lithium batteries seem to last quite a while. A spare battery is always in order, imo. A 3" screen sure sounds nice, though.I'm most curious whether the battery life gets eaten up by the 3"
screen. Also, the specs say that it doesn't come with a charger.
Any thoughts?

Well, I don't know if anyone at Olympus will make any changes to their 'package contents' description as a result of this, but the customer service rep I've been communicating with said "you can take my word for it, if your package does not include a charger, contact me back and I'll gladly send you one for free."Jeeze - it's like trying to get the truth out of the intelligence
committee! Do let me know what they say beyond their promo stats.
Again, thanks.
Actually, I imagine it's one of those cameras where you have to charge the battery in the camera, at least with the setup supplied in the box. That's not something Olympus has done much before, but I suspect it is this time (and I hate that method - unless you buy the specific charger for an Li-ion powered camera like this, if it's even available, it means you can't use the camera whilst it's charging - except tethered to the mains anyway - even if you have a spare battery). Furthermore, I don't see any manual modes listed for this camera, which strikes me as not in keeping with the rest of the SP range...It's my pleasure. And welcome to the forum.Wow - thanks. I had to laugh a little at the reply I received from Oly.
They told me:
quote --------------------
We value you as an Olympus customer and appreciate the opportunity
to assist you with this situation.
The camera does come with a battery and a battery charger.
SP-700 package content:
SP-700 Digital Camera
. Wrist Strap
. Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery Li-40B
. AC-Adapter
. USB cable
. A/V cable
. OLYMPUS Master (Software CD-ROM)
. Instruction manual
. Warranty card
end quote --------------------
So, they said yes, it does come with a charger, but then they
proceeded to quote the info exactly as it appears on their website
under the SP-700 Package Contents tab that clearly lists an
AC-Adapter but NOT a battery charger! LOL!
I eMailed them back asking for further clarification . . .
Maybe we'll get this figured out before you have to leave for
Italy. ;-)

I imagined it would come with a charger - as a lithium battery-powered camera, it ought to. But is it a separate charger? I wonder - I don't have the camera, but as you do, you can settle this one. I assume you charge the battery in the camera, rather than taking it out and putting it in the charger. Some people like that, but personally I don't, as it removes the advantage of getting a spare battery (i.e. leave the one battery charging whilst you use the camera with the spare). I also prefer not to leave a camera lying around charging - someone could always knock it off a desk, kick it accidentally if it's on the floor, etc. etc.!From experience:
It does come with a charger.
Hope that helps.
The Manual says it an AC adapter
The Box says its an AC adapter
The packaging says AC Adapter.
Guess what!
It charges the battery.
