Tell Nikon you want a new D200

Seems like we are hearing a fair number of D200 users who have had their cameras returned with banning issues still present. I think we need to pressure Nikon on the issue, we would like a defect free camera, not a "semi-

fixed camera", Its my view that thousands of cameras left the factory in this condition, (banding, to some degree or another), I also believe that Nikon has

identified the problem and that new shipments will not have the problem. Thats great for new buyers, but the many earlier buyers are now stuck with what could be called "lemons" which probably for economic reasons Nikon would like us to accept the quick fix of "image adjustment" which has been reported to be unacceptable. For those of us who have the problem and have waited to return our cameras, I think insisting on replacement cameras without the issue, is the route to take. We all want what we payed for and we are supported legally by Nikons warranty in that regard. Regards

I agree and disagree. Yes - a knew camera would be great of it DIDNT have banding. However, I would be happy with a camera being fixed and banding free. I'm in conversation with B&H about returning the camera and getting a new one. I dont have severe banding but I didnt shell out $1700 to have banding in the 1st place.

Time will tell. Needless to say, the D200 still produces some great pics.

Owners have been asked whether their D200 has banding or not. It would be interesting to determine for those D200's that do not have the obvious banding issue, (a) how many of them can be "forced" into banding, and (b) how many don't show any signs of banding regardless of the tests performed.

"Seems like we are hearing a fair number of D200 users who have had their cameras returned with banning issues still present."

..."fair number?" I've read one post regarding that. Can you point me to the others that make up that "fair number?"

Also, I've not read any posts that say the banding issue has completely hamstrung their photographic abilities. They are still using them in a real world setting, before and after they send them in for repair. That's a whole lot of images. That's a whole lot of practice, getting used to the camera, perfecting your art, learning digital, etc. I think if you're of a mind...go ahead and get one. Start shooting. Besides, odds are, yours will be banding-free. Just my opinion.

I dont have banding in all my pics - I guess I have to "force it" by taking a pic of light against a dark background.

Get with it.

Gary will settle for nothing less than the people rising up against Nikons evil empire.
You're either with him or against him.
And he's got a LOT of spare time.

I had assumed the attack dogs would have been napping at this time, with a full belly of Alpo.

At the Nikonians website, others have reported cameras returned with banning problems still visible.

Gary,

Seriously man. Take that vacation. You need it. :)

Then please let's start a list of serial numbers for the ones you returned.

I know that a lot of companies just rebox exchanged products that have "minor" defects.

I'm on a 400XXXX so unless I’m missing something? or the number you listed has another digit (more than 7?)

I understand the starting number, like 3, 4, 6, etc. denote the region and that the digits after that denote the number of units. So I guess my question should be, has anyone in the United States received a higher number?

Gary,

Because you clearly have been one of the individuals who is leading the crusade to make Nikon do right by the 'banding issue' I have two questions for you; Have you even contacted Nikon about the problem with your D200? and second if you believe that you deserve to have your 'lemon' D200 replaced have you attempted to get Nikon to do just that? I think anyone who has been watching this board for the past few weeks is now acutely aware of what you feel is wrong or unfair in Nikon's actions or lack of action in dealing with the banding issue. However, I have seen little in the way of your personal experience in getting Nikon to fix your banding problem and if nothing else you seem hell bent to keep people stirred up about this issue without any action on your part. At least I have not seen real evidence that you have made any direct attempts with Nikon to resolve your issue although I might have missed your referencing such attempts. If so please provide a link because I would truely like to see what you have personally tried and what were the results. Finally, I find it funny that you have a penchant for referring to anyone who challenges your tendancy towards hyperbole as attack dogs because to me that is like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black. Woof! Where is the Alpo ;-0
