Apologies if this is wrong forum but am unable to find a solution to this problem via Canon Support!

I have recently upgraded to the latest version of DPP which was working fine for a while, it then started crashing each time I opened a RAW file.

I removed the programme and re-installed; it was OK for a while but has now started to crah again.

Anyone have any knowledge of this or any suggestions?

Many thanks

can't help you with the crashes, but if it won't work, you might check out Raw Shooter Essensials (RSE) by Pixmantec (which is owned by Corel, i think. doesn't matter). it's free.

Nekdo je moral Josefa K. o'crniti, zakaj ne da bi bil storil kaj slabega, so ga nekega jutra prijeli.

Those files are super big. Is there enough memory on your machine? Could be that there's an application that wasn't running when you first got the program that is causing you to over-run it's memory.

Thanks to all for the replies!

There is plenty of memory available, I have actually removed some old programmes recently to free up space and there is nothing else running in the background to use up RAM.

I manage to get as far as converting a RAW image to JPEG, I then get the microsoft error report window appearing, the programme then shuts down, the jpeg does save in the folder though!

I have been using the RAW converter in CS2, but the latest version of DPP I found to be more compatible with better results, so it would be a shame to have to abandon it!

I have just noticed that the crash appears to happen when the RAW image I am importing is in a previous folder containing converted TIFF and JPEG images.

I just dragged a RAW image out of the folder onto the desktop and converted and saved it with no problem. Not sure if this is just a co-incidence or a bug in the system!

Perhaps someone with more technical knowledge can advise?

Many thanks

XP:

1-I will 1st look in Eventviewer[Via Control Panel-System Adminitration Tools], to see is any events related to this is logged and if theres any clues.

2-I wiil go ...run...msconfig....
The disable all at startup, except anything related to your program in question if any,..

then go to Services, click hide all MS services, now you see only the others. Check through them and uncheck all those that has nothing to do with this program in question..
Reboot..Now the PC restarts without all other unnessary stuff.
retry working with this program and see if problem persists.
In general: My experience with PC's aare that all the most important drivers like grafivs should be of equal update, so if XP are up to date, how are your grafics drivers etc ?

You could have a memory fault...
To verify, run latest MEMTEST[Google] for 2 hours, if OK I think your memory is OK.

DPP does exactly the same thing to me (XP/SP2, 1 Gig memory) any time I try to open a folder containing either jpgs or tifs. RAW only folders open ok.

Other browsers work ok - Picture Window Pro, Zoombrowser, Breezebrowser - so I'm guessing it's a DPP bug.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem, so it looks as though there is a bug in the software!
Perhaps Canon will come up with a fix?
