Just got my new D30 and started firing off a few shots today. Also figured I'd put up a D30 Helpsite as well. I know there's a few great sites to help already out there (and I'm gonna try to link to ALL of em!), but I I'd still like to contribute to the D30 gang, not to mention have a reference site of my own!

I'll be rummaging through these forums for every tidbit I can find to share back to the D30 community, so please feel free to send any and all ideas and suggestions my way to add!

Thanks!

You must live in one of those luxury high rises in the Boston harbor. Great view! I always wanted to buy a condo (with no $$) in Charlestown overlooking Logan when I was in Boston :)

A suggestion to your site: you may want to put the big header somewhere else as it takes more than 30% screen space for those of us live with 1024x768 laptop screens.

Some more sharpening and contrast would make your images even better.

Good work!

Good start. I agree with the earlier post...The header is to large. I hate having to scroll down to see the entire picture, and then to loose the top part of the shot when you scroll down is even more maddening.

I am running 1162X864 32 bit in case you wanted to know.

It is always a good idea to check your site under different resolutions and screen sizes to get a feel for what all your visitors will see.

Other than that...Good job.

Thank you all for your reply comments. Please feel free to continue the critiques, they'll only serve to make the helpsite that much better!

Updates (per your suggestions)...
  • Title Logo shrunken for more space
  • 'My Gallery' now populates a new window (for easier viewing)
  • 'Links' page reworked and more links added.
The Boston Harbor shots are from my office building, working for a Financial Institution has it's benefits! =o)

Sidenote: I've had the D30 for 3 days now and still haven't told the Girlfriend I got it!...Her monthly 'friend' is visiting and this isn't the right time to spring a new big ticket 'tech toy' purchase on her!

All I gotta say to that is TELL HER! It's not like you're married to her and have to hide all your toys. Maybe you'll end up with someone who's more understanding ;-)

I found the key to get approval for such an expense to to convince your other half with impressive results from your investment. I was preparing for a storm when I made my initial order of the D30, but after I showed her my first day of work (a trip with some good wildlife and landscape shots well processed and organized) the atmosphere was "cloudy" at most. My friend told me that if you have kids and let them pose a few shots regularly, it will be even more easier to handle any additional "investment" ...

Hey Eric, the only problem with that is that you'll have to have kids first!! ;)

Namura, are you part of the AT community by any chance? I thought I recognized that website. How do you like the D30? I just bought it yesterday and have yet to buy any lenses. Which ones did you buy?

Namura? Hehe, so many people get that wrong all the time...It's NamuNa!

Anyway,

If by 'AT' you mean Anandtech, then yeah I throw my $.02 in here and there at the forums.

My impressions of the D30 (from an Amateur/Hobbiest point of view)
  • Nice heft and feel. This ain't no P-n-S baby!
  • TONS of options/features/settings. It's gonna take time and LOTSA pics to get me adjusted
  • It uses the lenses I had with my EOS Rebel, the 128mb CF card from my Kodak DC4800 and batteries from my Canon Optura Pi...I was MEANT to get THIS camera!
My Lenses (brought over from the old EOS)
  • Sigma 18-35mm
  • Sigma 28-300mm
  • Canon 35-80mm (Came with the EOS Rebel)
Only other lens I'm thinking about picking up in the not-to-distant future is a good Macro (like Canon 50mm, heard great things about that)

Added a ton more links and 2 new Galleries (Auto Show and Aquarium).
