Sanho Hyperdrive Mini

We will try to offer FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING during the initial sales launch period of the HyperDrive Mini.
This device sounds almost perfect (gonna write a reply to the part
of this thread about the mp3-player functionality on how to remove
the "almost" from "almost perfect" :)) for me. I had already
decided to get the HD80 when I read about this here. But I have one
question: Will I get free international shipping with this one too,
or is that only for the HD80? That's kind of important to me.

Also have to say, as this is my first time to actually post
anything in these forums, that I think it's great, even amazing,
that the firm that creates this device actually takes the time to
come here and comunicate directly with the target group. Kudos to
you!

Anyway, the unit will be firmware upgradable so
additional features and functions can be added to the software if
enough users want it.
Great! Let me come with some suggestions:

-If it's not already, let it mount to the computer as a normal HDD, without the need for any drivers. That will make things a lot easier, and will asure that it works not only on Windows but also on Mac OS and Linux.
-Give it the ability to play Ogg Vorbis files (.ogg)

Wel, I can't think of anything more right now, but thanks a lot for making it upgradeable and for listening to your customers on what they want! I'll let you know if I think of anything else..! :)

This is already possible even with the HD80. :)

As a WinXP user, I've never had any problem with new external HD's being recognized in a few seconds. Can't speak to Mac or Linux, the two combined can't represent more than 5% of the market.

Never heard of Ogg, if Ogg has anything to do with audio and not the core functionality of the mini as a flash card backup, I'd say forget it.

I'd very much like to encourage Sanho to "Keep its Eye on the Ball" which is to make a superior PSD. Vosonic is a great example of a company trying to be all things to all people and failing to do anything well.

As I said, I didn't know if it mounted as a disk without any drivers or not. I'm very happy it does!

I totally understand what you mean, but if adding music playing capabilities is losing the ball, than HyperDrive already did, becouse the Mini already plays mp3's and wma's. Why not add support for an other quite popular format? iRiver has support for ogg's on many of their players (to mention one big, respected company who recognizes Ogg Vorbis).

So, what do you think, HyperDrive, is it possible that we can get that in the feature?

1. For marketing in the USA (and I persume other diverse makets). Back when I was looking into PSDs for the first time, Sanho was only in Asia. (By the way, is Hyperdrive and Sanho the same?)

2. For the amazing customer service demonstrated in this thread. I'm very impressed.

3. For the MP3 feature. (Especially if it's not implemented as an afterthought).

This appears to be a very nice unit. I like what I've seen so far.

Cheers, Seth

Yes, HyperDrive is a brand owned and marketed by Sanho, the manufacturer of HyperDrive and CompactDrive.

Possibly, the sound processor chip that we used is quite capable of a lot of things, we can do that in a future firmware but our priority will definitely first have to be making improvements to make the HyperDrive Mini the best in memory card backup and storage. This is first a portable storage device and second a MP3 player.

five weeks, you lucky guy! I am jealous! We are birders so shooting birds is mainly my thing ;-) this is our third trip to Costa Rica and so this time we are taking it easy, lol. Just spending a few days on the coast (Manual Antonio) and a few days in the central mountains (Poas Volcano area, where we definitely will visit La Paz for the hummers and butterflies) and finally a couple of days at Sarapaqui for birding at La Selva.

I have been using a portable CD burner (Apacer Disc Steno) which has been great but I am getting a new camera (Nikon D200) which is going to increase my file size greatly and so I think the CD burner just won't cut it anymore--would have to carry too many CDs. And the DVD burners are too slow--so hence the move to a hard-drive based unit. Although I think I will end up with two, for security--I have a hard time trusting them 100%.

So you have been to La Paz Waterfall gardens. Isn't it a dandy for hummers?

Here's a couple:

The Poas trails are rich also.

Have a great time. Are you thinking about 2x HD80s then? The D200 is sweet. Will you email me when you have your galleries from your trip up? I would love to see the shots.

Because he asked...here's my wish list:

A solution to hook it up to my car stereo CD changer controls like my Wife's IPOD...that way, when I'm not using it for travel pics, it will get regular use as my in-car jukebox :-)

The only time a smaller sensor with the same pixel count is superior to a larger sensor (aka higher pixel density) is when you are focal-length limited.

I don't know if that will take the 'eye off the ball', but I'd like to suggest, specially because most here would like to use it for image storage, to have a video output connector, making it possible to display image on another device (TV?)...it may be much easier than adding a lcd viewer :)

Another (really) minor suggestion is a Firewire port to enhance compatibility issues and sometimes achieve better transfer rates than USB 2.0.

I'll be looking forward Jan, 8...:)

Lucas,

Don't mean to speak for Hyperdrive, but both of your suggestions involve hardware changes. In order to meet the mid-Jan ship date the hardware is "Cast in Concrete". As I read Hyperdrive's comments, he opened the door to firmware enhancements at a later date, based on customer inputs.

I assume you understand the difference between firmware [the micro-code] and hardware.

Besides, firewire hardly falls under the guise of "really minor". FW requires another connector and a FW chipset. The sum of which could add $30 to the retail price, not something I'm willing to pay for.

I wanted to know if Hyperdrive (the person) will be there.

Hermit,

Thank you for your message.

I've sent suggestions more focused on 'future enhancements' of HyperDrive products. I wouldn't expect any hardware changes for this next release :)

Also, I think that my last message wasn't so clear...(sorry, english is not my first language)..about the Firewire connection, it was a 'minor suggestion' like without much importance and not a minor change :) Thanks for pointing out the other meaning that my message could suggest.

As for firmware improvements, I think that it's kind of difficult to suggest before really using the device, especially those concerning small changes to improve usability.

See you,
Lucas
