Olympus SP-310 shots

There was only one or two shots that didn't have a lot of blown highlights.
The images sure didn't look like a 7 mp camera.

What do you mean by "blown highlights"? And do you mean that the SP-310 is not a good camera compared to other 7.1MP in its class? I'd appreciate if you could elaborate a bit more. I'm just testing the cam and this was my first day, I took casual pics in AUTO mode, just P&S.

The composition on most are ok, it is the detail and blown highlights that I have a problem with.

The blown highlights are the areas that are just to white and there is no detail or anything in the area.

Look at Zoo12, great shot, but there is just no detail on the front of him, just white.

Now I have looked over them all again and noticed that you are using matrix metering. I did a little research on the camera, it will do Center Weighted and that is what I would be shooting with.

I am not sure if you have tried it but you may want to go to a negitive number on the Exposure compensation when you are outside.

I do under you were taking these shot is the worst time of the day and it is very had to get good highlights in the harsh sun.

Now the other thing, there just seem to be a general lack of detail for a 7 mp camera, but it may help to get the exposure down.

Remember, NEVER over expose and image, once the data is gone you can never get it back.

Could you post some full size images. I like this camera, but It would be good to see some images at different ISO at full size.

Thanks & regards,
Alvaro.

Alegator,

... is producing. You may need to work with it a bit to wring the best out of it.

Bill, and others that may view these images, once an image opens you need to click on it in order to see it properly. What comes up first isn't to pleasing, I suppose it is some reduced/compressed large thumbnail thing common to that site.

Yes, as Bill mentioned there are some blown areas etc. but if you look at these images correctly they are to me impressive for DR, color and detail.

I agree with Bill that correcting the exposure and metering will help, but you'll get that sorted out as you get more time with your new little gem I'm sure.

I'm convinced by these images and also a couple others that have shown up recently that this is going to turn out to be quite a good camera.

Thank you for posting these. I hope that Bill's replies won't keep you from shooting and sharing more images from this camera here.

Best Regards,

John

Thanks everyone for the comments. Bill, I'll play with the cam's metering or exposure to see if I can get rid of no detail in the highlight. I'll keep posting pictures, I'll also try macro.
