FZ5 vs FZ10?

How does the FZ5 compare to the FZ10 in size, picture quality, speed in focusing? I have the FZ10, but but got a Digital Rebel for better picture quality and the faster shutter speed and focusing. There are times when I don't want to take it with me though because it's too big and take the FZ10 instead. Would the FZ5 be better than the FZ10? I know one of my frustrations with the FZ10 is missed shots with the kids. I press the shutter, but they're already gone!

Thanks for your help!

In his FZ5 (dpreview)review Simon Joinson says "New high speed focus mode feels almost instantaneous - best in class"

The FZ5 is quicker than the FZ20/FZ10. I take a lot pics of our children, and I know the frustration of shutter lag, as I experienced with my old 2MP Olympus. The FZ5 does not dissapoint - focus is very quick on the high speed single and three zone modes.

The FZ5 is quite a bit smaller and lighter than the FZ10, also. After using the FZ10 you may well be shocked at how lightweight the FZ5 is. It's still too big to be a "pocket" camera, but compared to the Digital Rebel it's tiny.

But don't liek high speed focus system. The pictures freezes on the LCD (or EVF) and you think you go the shot but in reality, you miss it. I find the high speed focus hard to frame the shots coz. of the abov ementioned problem.

focus won't make it freeze (as with FZ20)

FZ 5 has 1m Telemacro, which is not as effective as closeup macro, but better than FZ10-30 telemacro (only from 1,5m of min. distance).

Sadly FZ5 lacks a hotshoe (external flash is fundamental for indoors and it provides better rendering with macros, bounced and with a light diffusor)

Size is much smaller than FZ10-20, which IMO is a PRO feature.

I am sure FZ5 will reamain in the Lumix models list more than FZ20 (which is virtually already replaced by the 30)

Don't know if they ll do a FZ8...

Thanks for your feedback. I'm going to go look at one in person. They have them at Circuit City.

Thanks again!
