Greetings,

I get an E28 error message on my LCD display. This is an older Powershot S10(6yrs), but I can't stand the thought that it is now a paperweight.

Canon says it is a CF card error. I've reformatted the cards and reset the camera, but I still am down.

Canon will sell me a refurb S70 on trade-in for $269. Not sure this is that great a deal. Thanks for any advice or help.

Of course they want to sell you a refurb S70, then don't have to fix your S10.

For that cost, there are so many new digitals to choose from and new too.

Its too bad these digitals are somewhat like disposables though I still have my S110 :)

I'll be damned - the lens nudge did it for me as well. We'll see how long it last.

I was beginning to think I might try a S70 - the review and the gallarie shots are great.

Thanks for the link - IT WORKED!

At least it has done its job in the last six years! Not bad considering how much has changed in the digital camera arena during that period.

Back to your question on whether you should get the S70, here is my opinion. I have used the S70 (just traded it in for the new S80 last week) and a great camera it is. However, there are two major factors that made me upgrade to the S80 after purchasing the S70 for less than 10 month.

1. The lens performance at certain focal length and apperture setting is questionable - purple fringing is the most obvious annoyance.

2. The S70 utilize Digic I (not Digic II) which, in my opinion, is not quite fast enough for a 7 megapixel camera. The image quality can also be much better.

So I would suggest you consider other choice before getting the S70.

The S10 has become my walking around take a shot if I need to document something camera.

I bought a D20 last year and that's what I use mostly - I like the compactness and convenience of the S10 - dated as it is.

Canon only offered the S70 as a replacement with my camera as a trade-in appreciate the thoughts on your experiences with yours. I really would like an older G series to remove the IR filter and experiment in that spectrum. Or put my upgrade money into that awesome 10-22 lens
