Has anyone changed the internal batery on the s5000? Everytime I change batteries I lose all the settings and time and date. According to the service manual, it shouldn't be too hard to change, I just don't want to tear it down and not be able to purchase a battery locally. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Fuji won't sell parts and want a fortune to replace it. marko

I wouldn't be surprised if it is laid out similarly to its big brothers, the S602z/S6900/S7000.

In which case, Jim Kirk's autopsy site might give you a good idea of what to look for. In these, the Real Time Clock battery is located on the main Printed Circuit Board, which makes up a sandwiched unit with the Power Board.

Here is Jim's site...

Jim is around; he's currently helping 'TheMatrix' in the thread entitled, 'Damaged S602 / I need jkirk...'

If you're lucky, he'll spot your question. He is in Australia, so make allowances for the time difference.

Good luck,

Tks batty...I've checked his link befor, My main question..is it a special fuji battery or a typical watch battery. I have a panasonic cam corder and the clock battery in it is charged by plugging into a power supply for several hours. I doubt that is the case with the fuji s5000.....mark

Gidday (and to batty ... or is it Robin :-),

YES its a STOOPID special battery and Ive tried for ages to find an exact fit, but failed, and I have pretty good contacts. Thats the bad news.

Good news is ... as we did on M/Boards looong ago, you can solder pretty much ANY 3V rechargeable LiION. It doesn't even need to be in the same place. On occasion I've soldered flying leads to the (removed) battery and STUFFED the replacement somewhere else. If I have a real beat up digicam, I even drill a hole through the cammie and stick the battery outside :-)
Its just a battery, only needs to supply 50uA + -

Thanks JKirk....You mentioned it being a rechargeable battery, do you think if I found a powersupply for the s5000 it would recharge, like on a Panasonic camcorder I have? Or does it charge from the AA's? Mark

Hiya,

All cameras RTC charge from both the Batteries AND AC charger. You have approx 10-30 days storage from when BOTH are disconnected. Charging from flat only takes approx 15-30 mins.
