Hi all

A few shots from my yard this afternoon.
Any comments or advice appreciated.

All taken with 300d, sigma 105 and 420ex with a homemade diffuser mounted on a homemade flash bracket.

No idea what this is, some sort of fly I'm guessing. Any ideas?

Thanks for looking
Colin

Nice work. Might be a species of Dance Fly given the long legs although a quick Google suggests it should have a long dagger like proboscis.

Thanks Brian.

I thought it was a mosquito as I was taking the shots. It wasn't until I saw the shots on my monitor that I realised I was wrong.

You're in the UK right? I will miss your shots in your winter months. Spring has just begun here so it's all starting to come to life.

Regards
Colin

Yes- fraid I'm in the UK- as is Racketman. Not sure what I'll shoot during the winter.- I've taken pics of the same type of fly and also assumed it was a mossy until I realised it had no proboscis. Interestingly they seem to like drinking fruit juice- I've attracted them a couple of times to pieces of melon (until the fruit flies move in)- only time I've baited the bugs.
