PSE 3.0 and 4.0 Organizer problem

I have been using both Edit and Organizer programs of Photoshop Elements 3.0 on my Windows XP laptop. Now I had to reinstall all my software on my laptop and discovered that Photoshop Elements 3.0 Organizer program crashes immediately at start. Then I installed the test version of PSE 4.0 and discovered that Organizer crashes as well with version 4.0. I just don't have any idea about what is the reason for the crash.

Looking at the log file indicates that something is happening while starting bitmap prefetch because that is the last line in the log file. The last lines in the log file:

...
1241 Driver versions:
1241 Microsoft DirectX Version: 9.0
1241 Support application versions:
1342 Adobe Image Viewer Version: 5.0
1362 Adobe Acrobat Reader Version: 7.0
1402 Adobe Acrobat Version: 6.0
1402 Initializing OLS
1942 Cleaning up old email attachments
2033 Starting bitmap prefetch.

I'm quite frustrated because the Organizer is an essential too in my archiving process. I now have a newer version of the F-Secure Anti Virus program but it does not make any notes about problems at installation of PSE 3.0 or 4.0. Anybody else having similar problems?

Leif,

Sorry, but I don't know what's causing your problem and I'm sure you're aware of the following which might help.

1) Disable your anti-virus s/w when installing PSE

2) Try disabling the anti-virus s/w when trying to run PSE - that would eliminate a possible problems with the anti-virus software.

3) Try the adobe forum for PSE - they might help http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.eeb4f8b

Thanks Brian! I tried all your suggestions and a couple more. Unfortunately they did not resolve the original problem. The best solution I could figure out was to purchase IMatch and abandon the Organizer in PSE 3.0.

I have PSE3 and my Organizer crashes at startup too. I don't use Organizer itself, but I do use their web gallery generator (many examples below) and the only way to get to it is through Organizer.

I posted a message here about my problem and also on the Adobe Photoshop forum. No help. And of course Adobe is no help either.

I may just give up on Adobe products in general.

No, I did not know but I did not see it as a big problem to regenerate the database. It just takes time! Anyway, I saw the PSE Organizer as a temporary solution and now I had a good reason to react.

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it a lot.

I see, I'm not the only one with the crash problem after all! This is very strange because I was using Organizer before my Windows XP got its register corrupted and I had to reinstall everything. First I thought it was the F-Secure anti virus program but I'm not sure if that's the problem.

Because we are very few with this problem I don't think Adobe will do much about it. However I know now that purchasing PSE 4.0 will not solve my problem because Organizer crashes as well.

I discovered that iTunes/Quicktime did not work on my laptop so I removed and then reinstalled them. Strange enough after this my Organizer in PSE 3.0 works again!

Why are PSE Organizer and Apple Quicktime related?
