Cindy Sheehan, Jesse Jackson, Anti-War Protest (pics)

If you don't think it is out of whack to protest our country (USA) and our troops and our president during a time of war and de-moralize our troops by doing so then there is no use even trying to explain anything to you...

Believe me, I'm not on her side. I'm mostly behind Bush. I was not
concerned with parties or sides today when shooting, however. I
just try to capture good tones and if I'm lucky, decent
compositions. If the subjects cause emotions to flow, good or bad,
so much the better. I guess what I'm saying is that whether or not
I like a person doesn't even register in my feelings about what I
like to photograph. If I were in Berlin in the late 1930's and
1940's, I would have photographed Hitler. 60's, Jane Fonda and the
rest of the liberal zealots. Like, don't like, doesn't matter.
Cheers,

Great shots there. Did you wear boots? There was a lot of BS and it was deep.

I saw a little on television of this event on CSPAN earlier today but could only stomach so much nonsense, anti-Americanism, and mindless rants.

Whenever you are at an event, photogs are falling all over each other for the shot. Your shot of Sheehan and Jackson in front of the White House, with the two cameras in front of you seemingly jockeying for position really made me smile as it brought back a few funny moment memories. You've been there...you understand what I mean. You kind of take a step back in your mind for a moment and look around and you see the humor.

The people are playing it up for the cameras, the vids and photogs are clamoring and jockeying for a picture and the press "helpers" are running memory cards back and forth to the vans where images are being relayed via satellite.... it's a circus....and the clowns are posing.

I had to laugh hard at the girl wearing the "Freedom for Palestine" T-Shirt.

She was far far too young to even know how the territory became "Occupied", but there's no sense in telling her that 3 nations parked their armies on the border of Israel, making their intentions known...and Israel struck out, pushed them all back and planted a flag and called it their own. There never was (or is) a "Palestine".

Well, we can't let facts get in the way of a good liberal Bush bash. LOL

Thanks for the post!

Julio

Hypothetically, if the president was to commit troops to a war based on a lie, and you found out about it, wouldn't you consider it your obligation to the troops to speak out against it? Or would it be better to let them die for that lie in order to maintain a common front?

So true.

But then again, you had a few college age kids too. I say "Kids" because at that age, really, they are so clueless.

I really laughed hard at the one with the "Freedom for Palestine" T-Shirt on.

Can someone point to Palestine on the map? LOL

But even so, didn't Israel pull out? Hope these other countries don't decide to park 3 different nation's armies at the border of Israel again. Hope they learned their lesson the first time around.

LoL, i knew we weren't gonna get through a thread without someone quoting all of the pictures for no reason :)

Very nice job! Though my opinion of the subject isn't very high, the pictures of Jackson are great!

Hypothetically, what if he had really believed the information that led to the conclusion and the reason for committing troops to war?

Also, hypothetically, we found tons of yellow cake uranium, chemical shells, centrifuge parts, etc..

Also, hypothetically, mass graves were uncovered, but those could be from hypothetical people.

Hypothetically, of course.

I take and respect your point, but I was only trying to point out that many (not all) of the protesters really believe that they are protesting for the benefit of the troops. The great thing about the US is that there is room for multiple positions and all have the right to publicly voice them.

My stance on the situation isn't important here. But, these people aren't protesting against the troops or this counrty. In fact, they care enough about the people over there that they don't want to see any more killed or injured. I can respect those views. What I can't respect is people talking down on those who just want there kids home.

I'm not against wars when they are just. Protecting our country is important and should be done if it is attacked.

The funny thing about our pro-Iraq war people and those who are against it is they both love the USA and its people. Unfortunately many get blinded by their own beliefs to see that. In the end they create their own little war "against" each other. Crazy if you ask me. :-)

Bringing kids into it is something I also see anti-abortion protesters doing a lot. It is not confined to any particular part of the political spectrum but it increases the more hot button an issue becomes, I think.

I think often in any political protest -- especially something like this where a lot of people have a personal stake in it with relatives in the regular military or national guard, and where there is a sense of hopelessness arising from both the administration and war opponents being at something of a loss as to what to do next -- family members, including the young ones, are likely to get caught up in it whether it is their own choice or simply the parent bringing them along.

Great job on these! Especially your protester shots. Simply wonderful photography.

Geez . . . I knew this thread was going to explode and get comments like this (below) and people saying things like "liberal zealots" and pseudo comparisons to "Hitler" and the like. . . .

As far as this post (below) . . . go read some speeches by presidents Lincoln and Roosevelt. They disagree with you. I didn't see in the Constitution that we only have the right to exercise our rights during certain times. BTW . . . during war, Roosevelt had chicken salad for an inauguration dinner and had a low key gathering as he felt it inappropriate to celebrate his re-election during war. Check out what George did, and how much he spent. I would say THAT was an inappropriate 'comment' HE made during war.

It's always funny when people call some of us "Communists" who disagree with this president and a war (that is based on lies). (Actually polls now show the majority of Americans disagree with this war). What you don't get is, we are just the opposite, we like our country and want to see it brought to the greatness that it could achieve. Not a warring meglomaniac policing country. But one that remembers there is to be a difference in church and state. If you feel it is "out of whack" to want a better US . . so be it. A recent poll outside of the US showed people would rather live in China now then the US. Pretty sad. This has happened under this administration. One President lied and got some head, the other lied (and continues to lie) and took us to war. No weapons of mass destruction and no Bin Laden! I lost friends in WTC . . . not by so called WMD in Iraq.

You did a nice job on the photos, but we didn't need the off handed comparison to Hitler and the like . . . because some of us may be "liberal". I said more then I meant to say here, but I am so sick of those type comments (and this post). We all know what is going to happen to this thread (with the Hitler and zealots c r a p comment), as this is obviously not the place. . . so . . . I'm not going to say anymore or answer anymore, but will say . . . Nice photos! Lousy, 'prejudicial' comment! ("Hitler" etc.) . . . . it's a shame you opened the door.

whoever would be behind George Bush is a brainwashed moron. The guy is a as dumb as a person can get. He is destroying America, he is a liar, a cheat and it hasnothing to do with "right wing" or "left wing" - it is what it is. It's unreal to me and everyone I know how anyone could be behind this loon. He has done no good in his 1st (almost) 5 years. Not one thing.
