Photoshop CS vs. CS2 ...

CS2 has lots of new features for processing RAW data and working on photographs in general. Adobe focused back on photographers this release, unlike 5, 6, and 7.

I currently run CS (the older version), but it works too. Though if you have the option to chose, get CS2. I plan on making the upgrade next pay check !

CS2 is AWESOME with high ISO ... CS1 adds noticeable horizontal bands.

Also, the workflow is much better ... copy and paste settings. You can whiz through a shoot really quick now with CS2.

For me ... no comparison.

Bottom line: if you don't understand what the new features give you in CS2, then don't bother and try and pick up a cheaper CS version by vendors who are selling them cheap. Yes, CS2 is better .. is it worth the extra money? That depends entirely on you.

CS2 is the new version. There are a number of new features (Noise Removal, Smart Sharpen, Perspective Correction) in CS2 that make it worth the upgrade. But the biggie is the new version of the Adobe Raw Converter (now at version 3.1 with 3.2 coming soon) and Adobe Bridge. IMO, the upgraded ARC and Bridge alone are worth the upgrade from CS to CS2.

Get a Wacom tablet and get the CS2 $299 special included in the tablet box. That's a good way to get CS 2 with a god tool!

I put CS2 on last night - on a recent laptop with Pentium Mobile Tech etc, so not an oldie . All works fine , generally, as far as the prog is concerned and when I open a pic in it, it is fine...but as soon as I go to 'View' - to get 'Actual pixels' .. or even before that if it comes up as a small % size pic of an original and I go to open it to larger size...THEN, it auto fills the screen and completely covers or wipes the entire top Menu and drop list etc, and the ONLYway I can get those back is to jiggle the little screen type icons at bottom end of the left Tools list until hopefully the Menus come on again..but even then it's very touchy.

Anybody else get this prob ??? cannot undersatand it . NEVER had any similar prob with my good old PS7 .. gr-rrr .. sometimes I wonder if upgrades ARE totally worthwhile... if it ain't broke .... etc

The link to the adobe site comes up very frequently with an offer to upgrade from PSE2 that came with your 20d

(Search $299 Adobe CS2 - or words like that)
.. anyone know which is better (assuming one is better than the
other) and if so (or not) why?

Regards,
Dave

There are those that read the small print and learn through knowledge, while others ignore the small print and learn through experience.

This offer is only good if you own a previous version of Photoshop,

"NOTE:This upgrade does not apply to Adobe Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe licensed users." If you own Photoshop 6 or 7 or CS (or older versions) this one is for you.

You can upgrade from Elements to CS2 for $299 directly from Adobe. They make this offer because you got a Canon DSLR Camera which had Elements 2 with it and they have this special available to us.

Raw images seem to be handled better and the Browser is more useful. Also, the performance seems better.

I posted this awhile ago and took advantage of this offer as well!!! What a great deal!! I absolutely love CS2, coming from elements, and I used the extra cash for a new frigginhooge monitor...yeah!! Lots of learning but the program is solid.

I wish I had more money to blow and time to blow it!

I have a copy of Photoshop 7 but the original CD was lost in my last move. I do have a copy of the serial number. Does anyone know if the CD required for the upgrade or just the old serial number?

Based on the opinions expressed here, I think it is time to upgrade.
