Yesterday, I purchased a Hubbell light, model 2202-2A. [It sells for about $15 at Lowes hardware stores].

So far with only a few test shots attempted it was successful in the dark at getting AF lock at 22 feet and less on multiple colored walls (light, medium and medium dark, different colors but no black and no white tried yet).

I tried on a near black wall and failed at 32 feet, but on a black and dark brown (walnut) air-conditioning front cover easily got an auto focus lock at about same distance.

This is a 10,000 candlepower Xenon light powered by 2 AA batteries with a battery expectancy of 6-7 hours. It is black in color dimensions are about 10cm X 5cm X 3cm.

Hand held it's a pain [not too bad on a tripod], but it works on both manual and auto focus.

Procedure: In a darkened area (very dim light available in room all lights off and blinds and drapes closed) I turned the Hubbell light on sat it on the camera and pointed it at the airconditioner 32 feet away. The first time I sat the camera to Manual focus and pushed the instant focus. The camera was able to foucs without difficulty. I then focused on somethng close and turned the camera to auto and tried again it again worked. Next I shout the camera off and then turned it on and to manual focus. Again I pushed the instant focus and shut the light off. I set the 2 second timer and took the photo. The exposure was 3 seconds at f2.8 (probably at 3.1 as lens was at 210 equiv.) ISO 200.

The picture was well exposed and in focus.

Now I need to figure a mounting system so it can be placed on the hot shoe for non-flash photos or on a tripod mount to either fit via the camera's tripod mount to a bracket or a tripod. . It appears as though you will still be able to use the internal flash with it mounted on the hot shoe. However, for external flash that obviously won't work that's why I'm attempting the multiple mounts. Suggestins welcome.

The photo is not pretty but it does show that the Idea May work and that was it's purpose.

The camera and Hubbell light were both 32 feet [about 10 meters] away from the airconditioner for the shot.
