Hi

Had so much fun learning how to do things with this processing hope it has worked.

I wanted that "Disney" look and whilst it is very heavily processed hope it may work.

All the best

Ray,

I like the idea but to me because the river bank in the centre of the shoot is bright it draw’s you into that.

Also the red around the tree branches (top) I find distracting but the affect on the left of the picture and the boat on the right is great.
Hope you find my views constructive.

Mick.

Nice thought For me you should lose the red and blue flowers around the bottom of the trees and slightly tone down the tree tops on the right of the pic. That would work just fine. But each to their own. Hope this opinion helps.

Hi

Thanks for the ffedback which is always taken constructively.

I did have a problem with the halo effect around the trees when I did the mask.

I had applied some gausssian blur to the mask to hide it a bit but it has remained - any ideas why please?

(ps used Ruseell Brown's technique to make the layer???)

Re the flowers - sorry, that is the one thing I want to stay except perhaps for the area by the tree to the left.

I suppose it is each to their own but I like that sort of addition.

Everything else I agree with and will work on - but please - I want to keep the flowers!!!!

All the best

Ray

Ray, I really like what you did with the water -- very pretty and dramatic. Here is a tip for blending in new skies to avoid the white haloes around branches. Instead of doing a selection, just add your new sky above your background, and change the blending mode to darken. Then add a layer mask with a soft linear gradient to blend in the edge. You can paint with a soft gray/black brush to help blend in any light areas that you don't want affected by the new sky. This technique works very well with light/white skies against a dark foreground. Quick and easy.

Hi Ray,

Great image to work with and I like the vibrant and bright colors. I do agree with the sentiments of the others with respect to the branches. Tammy's tip is great, a good one to remember.

Hi all

Thanks for the advice tammy.

Bill (Wilkev) did tell me about the darken mode but I tried to create a mask as well as use the darken and a reveal all layer because of the little buts between branches.

However, your idea is a great help - thanks a lot

Best wishes

Ray:

You know that I really enjoy your creativity. However, I think that you have been a little overly exuberant on this one. The water is beautiful, but the flowers and tree highlights do not work. The flowers need to go and you need to tone down some of the highlighted trees.

This has potential to be a great retouch if you work to make it a little more realistic. I like your efforts, Ray. Keep posting.

Regards...

I thought you might like to see these images by the great Philadephian painter Maxfield Parrish as inspiration (His name is brought up here now and then... I know KentC is a fan).

That´s what your image reminds me of more than anything.

His images have false lighting and unusual colours. Look at how he handles reflections in water.... like flat mirrored glass. Everything is kind of flat, almost like a collage of scanned images. They look like stage sets. But everything works together... you suspend belief and go with it.

Best of luck with this.

Many thanks for your posts - I think it is back to the drawing board for this with some exceptions.

I have learnt from the task and will now rework complately taking on board your advice and that of others so busy now...........

Best wishes

Ray,

I think you have found a special technique all your own. This is another exceptional work of art. I love the high contrast, hue/sat that you add to your photos. This is just as great an idea as all others.

Thanks for sharing,

Thank you so much Melissa as always.

I have followed the advice in this post and have reprocessed and posted again undwer a new topic,

Hope this amended one may be received a little better.

However, it is great to receive genuine criticism because the people here are invariablt correct and have a great knowledge.

My only difference of opinion is the flowers which in my new post I have removed as suggested. Wanted to keep but the opinion was that they should go so I went with the advice as I always do.

Anyway, great fun to do.

Best wishes

Ray
