Hi guys,

I'd like to rotate the horizon in this photo to straighten it up. I know it can be done because i've read threads on it but cant find them now.

Please provide instructions on how to do so using PS 7 (that's what i'm using) :)

thanks so much in advance. i would like to print this one out, so i'd like to straighten it.

cheers

you should be able to : select> all then go to edit> transform> rotate and turn the photo to the desired position. Hit return to confirm it and then use the crop tool to crop off the slanted edges. best of luck!

Hello,

Here's one way to straighten photos in Photoshop:
  • select the "Measure" tool (it's a sub-tool of the eyedropper).
  • draw a line on something that's supposed to be horizontal, but isn't
  • Select Image-> Rotate Canvas-> Arbitrary...
  • the value required to make the line you drew with the measure tool horizontal should be pre-inserted
  • click OK, then crop the image as needed
It's easier in PS CS using the angle tool in Camera RAW, and I'm sure others will post other ways to do it.

HTH,
Adam

Another way is to hit Ctrl A to select all, then Ctrl T to get free transform tool. Then by holding down the Ctrl + Shift keys, click and move the upper right handle up until the water line is horizontal. You could pull down a guide to help make is level. This will not work on all images but on scenes like this, any distortion will usually not show up. I use this method when I don't want to crop anything from the picture.
