What is a use of AV Out in Canon Powershot A20

Hi ,

I am thinking of buying A20 in next few days. I searched a lot about the AV out functionality of the A20, but could not understood what it is.

Can I capture video on my PC and make AVI files of that. Can I use A20 as a Webcam?

I saw $289 price for A20 on the http://www.citiphoto.com Does anybody know about these guys?

Appreciate attention to this.

Some still cameras are even able to record short movies (like G1 and G2 cameras). Check the specifications of the A20 to verify if it provides that facility.

The AV OUT is an output for being able to see the pictures on a TV (PAL or NTSC system). Have to say that the quality on TV of the pictures can be a bit disappointing but it is good enough to show the pictures to your friends or family without having to take with you your laptop (if you are lucky) or to print them out.

I saw the specs and even the online manual of the camera and I agree with u that It is just a replacement of an LCD to view the pictures....

But I wanted to know that can we see the motion on the TV which can be seen in the LCD?
And If I can then I should be able to capture it on my PC with TV card?

What ever you display on TV can also be recorded on a Video tape.

To copy from your Camera to PC, use the USB connection that came with the Camera. If you go thru TV Card, you are losing a lot of resolution as the max rez out of TV port is 600 X 480. The only use of the TV out port should be to view and/or record images/avi on a VCR.

Here's the deal regarding AV out.

The AV out function merely diverts the video signal from the LCD to whatever you have the output cable hooked up to (TV, whatever). What you see on the TV is exactly what you'd see on the LCD at any time. The resolution of a TV output is approximately 325x525, and looks rather grainy. I would not use it as a video camera other than just as a webcam through a TV card.
