Hi all

i dont normally want to do any post processing on my photos, but after playing around with a few things i got this photo:

the effect i want in this picture it to make it look like i am travelling faster in the car. so the center stays focused but the futher out to the edge it looks more and more blurred,

due to it being quite a bright day i couldn't really lower the shutter speed too much as i cannot set the f stop on my camera higher than 9 which makes it hard... what can i do in photoshop?

I played around for ages with motion blur but couldn't get it looking realistic atall...

please, any ideas would be great.

thanks
Joe

I thought this worked pretty well.
1. duplicate background layer

2. apply radial blur, moving blur center to coincide with the distant road. Since there is no filter preview, I applied, deleted and reran filter until I got the center in the right place.

3. add layer mask and paint back your unblurred automobile dashboard, wipers, decal and up the center of the highway. Use a soft brush on the road and cars to blend the blurring.
4. experiment with layer mode for different effects.

The left image has Normal Mode. In the right image (overlay mode) the blurring is softened, outdoor colors are intensified and the wiper marks on the windshield are visible.

Nice job Joe. I think this covers it and if i need this, I will the directions. Kent has a similar action called lens baby blur (I think) on atncentral.com that is a really nice trick too.

thanks for the replies joe and melissa...

i played aroun with what joe was showing and came up with these. i like the one with the cars in it better as it doesn't look as fake but would love to be able to clone the cars out well enough for it to look like a big straight road...

cloned out

i find it really hard to make cloning look good. i tried using the vanishing point tool but it made it look a bit s* t to be honest.
Joe Roberts...

thanks again for the help joe, with this kind of help i will be a ps pro i no time.

Hi there joe,
Really liked what was done to this picture with the motion blur.

I used your blurred photo and tried to remove the cars. Not the best but I am thinking that it can be done.

I used the lasso tool to select different areas of the photo and moved them. I used transform perspective on some of the selections. A bit of cloning.
Here ya go,
mead

Hi Joe,
Glad you liked it. I am not sure how long it took, maybe 30 minutes.

I think if you got rid of the cars and then added the blur, it would look much better than my attempt. But I haven't used the motion blur filter much, so I didn't try that, I used yours.

By the way, neat shot. The motion blur looks good with it.
