The wolverine products seem to be clones of and/or mad by a company calle Vosinic. Vosinic has one of the largest lineups of Portabel Storage Devices (PSD). The tend to be kind of slow, but the speed varys from one model to the next, and some of the newer models seem a little faster. I'm not aware of any major reliablity issues with this lineup, but I do know that my VP-3310 does do an emergency unload of the hard drive at every power down. Not sure if there has ever been any Firmware fix for this or not, or if newer Vosonic Products have fixed this issue. (it reduces the life of the hard drive from somehting like 600,000 on/of cycles to maybe 20,000, a signifcant recuction, but 20,000 is still a big number)...

There are probably better products out there then the flashpac your looking at, some may even be cheaper...

Read this recent post I made on simmilar topic... Keep in mind that the Nexto-CF has a single CF card slot... not sure what the Digimate has, or what type of cards your expecting to back up...

I am shopping right now to replace my 80gb Wolverine purchased in April. Upload from card takes forever (I use Sandisk Extreme III & Lexar 80X WA cards), battery performance has been poor - 3 2gb card transfers is all I get, and the lithium-ion battery loses power if the unit sits unplugged for any lenght of time - even a couple hours.

While I obviously regret the purchase and do not recommend this product, I will say it meets all Wolverine specs, excepting the battery performance. I never tried the travel battery available - it's just been so disappointing.

I'm thinking about moving to a CompactDrive fwiw. Any negatives there?

Good luck with your search.

The older model is the Wolverine Six Pac which is being discontinued. the newer model looks identical to a number of other manufacturers such as Vosonic. The newer Wolverine is called the Flash Pac. Fry's has had these on sale and currently there is a rebate from Wolverine for $30 on the 40gb and 60gb models. This expires on 8/31/05. I picked up the 40gb model for $189. before rebate. Any of these can probably also be upgraded by replacing the HD with a larger faster drive.

So, I have seen the 60GB now available at costco.com for I think 169$$ after this rebate.

That would seem better than the 189$ pre rebate on the 40gb?

Oops! I've done so much surfing on the item I forgot I could order from Costco. Not to mention the ability to return the product if not satisfied! I knew I was forgetting something on the way to Fry's.
