[+] of firmware 2.0 IMHO

1.) no underexpose like before, I do not need to +0.5 EV
2.) out of the box pics much better
3.) menu is faster and more logic

Same observations here.

Possibly, I have used fotogenetics P&S tone curve since last november so I stoped doing +0.3 back then.
2.) out of the box pics much better
Probably related to one
3.) menu is faster and more logic
I haven't noticed it being faster, but having a higher contrast makes it more visible outside in bright sunlight.

I have noticed the AF has improved though. It is lovely that every photo comes out sharp, in focus and well exposed. Now if they could only release a patch to fix behind the viewfinder we would be all set.

Agree with your comments. Finally got around to testing my D70 after the 2.0 update was installed. Amazed at the improvements. Past focus problems with the wide angle lenses in paticular are much improved. Even in single point focus mode the focus accuracy is much better. In addition, exposure accuracy is significantly improved from previous firmware. My only disapointment is that it took Nikon over a year to come out with the 2.0 release. Enjoy the camera much more now.

someone around here tested for diffrence in exposure and it was exactly the same old or new FW. in a studio setup.

I, however found that the 2.0 exposes little more no need to dial in +.3 on many occasions it is just fine IMHO.

Didn't notice any improvement in focussing, I tried all modes. Focussing is not the best thing in the D70, it is lame slow but usable if you know how to work it.

i found 2) and 3) to be true.

but not 1). my D70 still underexposes after the 2.0 firmware upgrade. and the underexposure seems to vary depending on the lens. 50/1.8 usually gets it right, but i pop in a 24/2.8, and it underexpose by nearly 1EV.

i also find center-weighted or spot metering to be more accurate (ie. less need for +0.3EV to +1EV, and also more consistent when switching to different lens.

I have another observation.

No underexposure on my nikkor lenses (18-70, 10.5, 700-300g) anymore.

But slightly overexposed with the Sigma 13- 400. The pictures are mostly solvable though by removing the used curve in NC. I have tho underxpose with 1/3~2/3.

Of all things i've lost, i miss my mind the most.

Henkos: What lenses are you using? My D70, one of the first, has always had lightning fast focus..........Please advise.

I use 70-210F4 constant and 17-55AFS, focussing is acceptable but once you tried a D2H you'll now what FAST is.

Was there more than 1 firmware? I just got my d70 and the software it has is, I believe, 1.00 and 1.01 (A and B respectively)....I haven't gotten Nikon Capture yet, so I can't install the new firmware. I did download the firmware and my understanding is that all I need to do is format a 512 card and load A onto it...put the card into the camera and choose the new firmware..then take out the card, format it and load B in and do the same thing...is it that easy?

I do need to have Nikon Capture though right (the one that is $99, but I get a trial)

Gary,

Try shooting fast moving, random sports like soccer and you will change
your mind about the speed of cam900. You can just get by, but it's
tough and you really have to work with it. Hit rate is still kinda low.

Jim

p.s. That's using a 70-200 afs too.

In order to have something positive to add, we have this old semi-
relevant thread:

You don't need Nikon Capture to do the firmware upgrade. What you described up that point seemed correct, but Capture is not involved in the upgrade process.
