As photos, well I guess they capture the moment - a photo essay of sorts...

The big "Make Poverty History" demonstration is tomorrow (02/07/2005), but already the less law abiding anti-capitalists have been leaving their mark on Edinburgh. Most of those on one small street... There are meny more demos too all through next week...

The G8 conference is not till next Wednesday, in Gleneagles.

Two small images from the gallery: http://www.pbase.com/wangi/g8 please stop by for the other ten...

It's a great gallery Wangi, and thanks for posting.

What most of these spray-gun vandals do not appreciate is that the people who need to see their work will be miles away and never pass these places. Their artistry only serves to a: p*ss people off and b: provide an opportunity for a good photographic essay like yours.

Incidentally, and I know it's off topic, capitalism is not the problem here, indeed it may be the only solution since most of the suffering nations are in the grip of undemocratic and corrupt regimes. Change them and you change the world.

Also...how do you Mow capitalism???

The camera is only half of the equation for getting great pictures

of the times I've visited your fair city. Friendly people and a very beautiful, historic city. Of course, your weather is mild, and that's why you see people wearing sweaters, jackets, etc. in Summertime. I got my favorite wool sweater at a quaint shop in Edinburgh.

Sorry, you're Metric now:

I used to drink a pint or two in the local pubs;so, what do I drink now? A half-liter? :)

Personally, I will be watching The Open on TV from St. Andrews in a couple of weeks.

Certainly not artistry, not these numpties! These graffiti shots will never go near the http://www.pbase.com/wangi/urban gallery...

You know if it was on painted walls or the boarded up windows then it wouldn't be too bad - but on sandstone. Geez...

Certainly, a lot of merit to that.

Exactly - here's another "mow" one by another Edinburgh photographer:

And i'm pretty sure it's the graffit they're removing in my photo above.

Thanks John, L/

I see they're boarding up the shops. Are you going to get some shots of the action next week? It might get very nasty. Thanks for the preview, and good luck.

... was a new Canon? At the risk of adding evidence to the "dumb American" theory, I confess: I thought this thread would be about a sequel to the Canon G6!

:-p

Glad to hear some things remain the same....The Imperial Pint equals 20oz., while the US pints equals 16oz. All this time I just thought your beverages were stronger :)

Pictures of shop keepers boarding up store fronts makes me wonder how much support the locals are giving to the G8 protests;this is may be understandable given the prior G8 protests in other countries:

And I, finding this in 2014, thought it might be about the camera to follow the Panasonic G6. Oh well... Perhaps another 9 years from now, some other camera will have gone through the G's to 6 and this thread will be found again...
