Child porn case reveals interesting side note.

Steve,

I've literally read everything that Johnson has written. Most on the Left consider him to be a right wing reactionary. If you've read him you haven't paid close attention.

Steve, there are tin foil caps made of tin foil that can be purchased for a reasonable price on Ebay. Forced abduction of Jewish children - only in the overactive fetid imaginations of the truly deranged. You have to consider other sources than the New Republic and the NYT.

Steve, this will be my last response to you since you are clearly deranged accepting as gospel the lunatic ravings of the far Left. Keep that beard long. Let's hope your academic scholarship isn't quite as debased as your political thinking.

Actually these did happen in europe into the 19th century under the sponsorship of the Catholic Church. They only happened in places like Spain, Italy, and France that were Catholic states, never in Britain, Prussia/Germany, etc. Pope Pius IX was infamous for ordering one of these abductions personally then refusing to give the boy back to his crying, begging mother who came to him to plead for her son's return. This is the same pope who declared himself to be infallible in 1878.

That was low, you know Steve is a Jew and they're supposed to wear long beards according to their religious law (of course I know many Jews who don't, but it still looks like you said that because he's Jewish)

"But your liberal world view won't allow you to recognize that these animals are bent on YOUR destruction. You no doubt are opposed to the Patriot Act."

Why would you make any of these assumptions?

1. I am very concerned with Islamofascism. I support an American led effort to reform the central source of that fascist movement ... the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

As for the Patriot Act, I oppose its misnomer for one thing. At least Adams had the honesty to call his version the "Alien and Sedition Act." I suspect, however, like most of the radical right you are ignorant of the act itself. What aspect exactly do you feel is so important to our country?

"Unfortunately, welcoming the stranger includes those who are committed to your destruction and that is just plain stoooopid."

Gee, how tolerant of you. I tell you a few facts about Judaism and then you decide we are harboring the Islamic nut class. Let me give you a hint .. who was the last world leader to be photographed holding hands with the ruler of Saudi Arabia?

Back at the Haggadah, I still think you might benefit from looking at it. For that matter, you would be surprised to learn that you would be welcome in a jewish home next Passover. We love sharing our liberty.

"Gee, I wonder what the source of French anti-Semitism is? It's nidus is of course the "religion of peace." "

I am all to aware of Islamic bigotry but the source of French antisemitism is Christianity just as the source of American antisemitism is hardly our small contingent of Muslim Americans. For CENTURIES French and American children were taught that my ancestors had killed their Deity. I was personally stoned as a child because the nuns taught this as part of the mandatory catechism in my catholic neighborhood. The Christina Bible itself is rife with antisemitism, presumably a result of the fusion of your church with Rome under the pagan Constantine.

"Oh, I see. As long as you are not a PRACTICING Jew you're OK. Don't kid yourself. If you support Israel and are Jewish, or even if you don't support Israel and are Jewish you will be subject to the most virulent anti-Semitism since the third Reich."

Of course, for once we agree. However in France it is OK to be jewish, juts not to wear a kippah or publically discuss the role Judaism plays in your moral/public life.
'

There is no systemic anti-Semitism in the USA today. Sure there are those who dislike Jews, but Jews have done better in the USA than in any other country (including Israel) in the history of the world. It is VERY ungracious of you not to recognize this fact. I'm a practicing Catholic and I'm not whining about the anti-Catholic sentiment either in the Third Reich or in the USA. Get over it and thank God you live here!"

Sorry, where did I say I was not aproud JEWISH-AMERICAN. The letter of Pres. Washington to the Jews of Newport is one of my most valued buts of political memory. The President refused a request that we be granted equal rights because, he said, we were citizens of a country where all people were equal. Wonderful!

Nonetheless what I said is true. The Southern Baptists, presumably including Bush, have declared us as sinners as and a needful target of conversion. In much of the USA Jews still tolerate school systems that celebrate Christian holidays while not even noticing ours (my own children experienced this). So yes, the USA is a great place, but we all have way to go.
The US AirForce academy has admitted to systematic antisemitism" .... "Oh, I see!! It was reported in the NYT so it must be true. Stephen, you are even more naive than I thought. This story stinks and is undoubtedly bogus."
Come off the kool-aid. The story is very true and the commandant himself has said so. The radical right's know-nothingism is frightening. Next you will tell me that Amnesty International is an islamo-liberal organization.

As for Mr. Jefferson, have you read anything he wrote or just drunk the KKK's kool-aid about state's rights? Jefferson's paramount belief was in individual freedoms. He was an intellectual of the first order. You may well be right about State's rights but you also need to know that the Louisiana Purchase was the first great act of Federalism.

Jefferson, BTW was an antisemite, having drunk of the same kool-aid as others educated in Christian America. It is difficult for me today to read these ignorant words by the man most responsible for my own freedom today.

Have you radhis history of Christianity? It is the best book I have read on the subject.

As for Johnson being regarded as rightist, I have never heard that.

My strong guess is that Steve's not a practicing Jew but rather an agnostic with an unkempt beard. Steve doesn't seem to believe in anything other than lunatic ravings.

1. When I was a child catholic orhanges tried to "keep" Jewish children form being adopted by jewish families.

2. "In 1858, in a highly publicized case, a six-year-old Jewish boy, Edgardo Mortara, was taken from his parents by police of the Papal States. It had been reported that he had been baptized by a Christian servant girl of the family while he was ill because she feared he would die and go to hell otherwise. In this time, the law did not permit Christians to be raised by Jews, even their own parents. Pius steadfastly refused calls from numerous heads of state including Emperor Franz Josef of Austria-Hungary and Emperor Napoleon III of France to return the child to his parents." This same Pope is the one JPII beatified and the current Pope wants to make saint. Mortara, BTW was only one of many cases.

Don't worry about. First, my beard has nothig to do with my identity as a jew. Second, bigots like Bob always react like this when they are challenged. In my experience, the radical right (like the radical left) is less afraid of ideas from the other side than they are of simple facts. Bob lives in a compfortable world, unbothered by "untruths" that disturb his reality.

Sorry, but the Cinstitution does not describe what the free exercise might mean. As for the right of privacy, freedom of religion is itslef one aspect of that as is the right to bear arms, habeas corpus, and much else in the Document.

You might, however, have a better case debating some of the legislation the Court has created ... from Marbury vs. Madison's creation of the Court itslef to the abortion decision. And then there is the Election of Bush by the Supreme Court ... clearly in violation of sate's rights.

Personally, I am rather conservative in regard to the Couort. You might be surprised but I do not thinkl the Court ruled correctly in Roe. I also pretty much agree that the second amendment means what it says.

The problem is that they are clearly NOT porn to YOU. If you believe in yourself that much, then I dare you to take those images down to your local police station and show them to the police. If they agree that they are not porn, you have nothing to worry about. If they disagree or even question it, your childern will be taken away from you while they investigate the pictures. You will be locked up and branded a child pornographer. Your name will be in the news and you will be fired from your job.

Your only defense will be saying, "The images didn't seem like porn to me..."

Let's not forget that the Roman Catholic Church is only one denomination of Christianity, they are not the be all and end all.

I'll repeat once more - Chritstianity is not an institution. There are denominations of Christianity, but Christianity itself is not an institution.

We know, but we're talking the Catholic Church, which is an institution and has historically been a very powerful one in Western Europe and the US. I'm guessing that you're an Orthodox Christian, based on your name which sounds Romanian. In some countries the Orthodox Church did a lot to protect Jews. In Bulgaria during WW II for instance, the Patriarch of the Bulgarian church threatened to lay across the rails to prevent Bulgaria's fascist wartime government from sending a trainload of Jews to the **** camps in Poland. In other countries, Russia for example, the church has been less humanitarian. For centuries the Russian church encouraged pograms.

Hi

I just finished reading all the posts in this thread, and want to add a photofinishers perspective on this if I may. For the record, I work as a "floater" ( someone who works in the lab or on the salesfloor as needed ) at a small Ritz Camera in Michigan.

1.) In any store that takes even the smallest interest in providing quality photofinishing, your images may get looked at by as many as three people, the Printer, the Sorter ( the person who inspects and packages the orders ), and the person who hands you your prints at the counter. The person at the counter opens the box and asks you to look at the prints for two reasons. First, he ( or she ) wants to make sure that the prints you are about to pay for are actually yours. Second, we want to make sure you are happy with the quality of the prints, and to answer any questions about why the prints came out the way they did, and make suggestions for improving your pictures.

2.) The police can't just walk into a camera store and demand to look through anyones pictures without a search warrant.

3.) Most photo lab techs don't even bat an eye at photos of kids in the bathtub ( unless an adult is also in the tub doing something illegal ). Heck, compared to what I see from the local law enforcement, fatal car accidents, suicides, etc... , two kids playing with a rubby ducky ( the kind you buy at "Toys 'R Us" ) is something I don't even comment on.

4.) Any lab that prides itself on professionalism will NOT make unauthorized copies of your work. We get a reminder, about once a month, from our corporate office, that unauthorized copying of customers work is grounds for immediate termination. This is for two reasons: first it's a privacy issue, and second it's a matter of copywrite.

5.) It is true that your digital jobs will remain on our system for a while after they have been printed. Not so we can make illegal duplicates ( see 4 above ), but so that we can reprint the order for YOU if you need more prints. We reprint several digital jobs a day, for one reason or another, and having the files saved on the system, saves us the hassle of reloading the images from the original media and making any adjustments that were made before printing. By the way, your images are not stored "forever" on our system, only until the system cleans out the old files, which depending on how busy the store is, can be anywhere from 1 day to 1 month.
