Let's take a look at how many members are "Long Lens Shooters" (LLS) using at least 500mm or longer lens. Also curious as to the type of shooting you do with your lens (i.e. sports, wildlife, etc). Only users that have long lenses, not using a TC. Looking for brand and focal reach or focal range, if applicable.

Here's a 500mm surf action shot using a Sigma 500mm f/4.5.

Sorry to post similar pics but I recently bought a Nikon 500mm P manual focus lens. Man Do I love it. Even used it for my sons baseball game. 400mm afs-11 would be perfect but it was still fun.

Hi!

How do you like your Nikon glass on the E-300? I'm using my F-mount glass on my E-1 with great results and was thinking about adding the E-300 as well... so, Im interested in first hand experience from actual Nikon users (like myself)... ;)

Alex

That's a nice lens I would imagine. I'd wonder how it compares with my Sigma 300-800mm?

A bit tricky to MF focus on the E300 if you wish to stop down. But I shoot my long glass wide open 90% of the time. Exposure is good. I bought the E300 strictly to use with my long Nikon glass and for my MF OM glass...8mp on the cheap....I'm satisfied.

Hi!

A few months ago I bought a Sigma 300-800 myself, but I (obviously) got a defective copy -> amazingly soft, even when focussed manually at non-moving subjects -> sent it back... so I can not really give you a head-to-head, first hand experience writeup kind-of-thing... yet... ;)

I have put off getting another one for now, since I did invest in another system (Oly), but it is on my short-time-investment list (meant to replace a great deal of my longer lenses). From what I have heard and seen, the Sigma (normally) is quite an extraordinary lens. I'm looking forward to using it myself.

How do you like it?

Regards
Alex

I've had great success with my version. maybe a little soft at 800mm, but nothing that caused convern. Great range, color, contract and outstanding Bokeh!...Very happy.

Im having too much fun with my D 100 to worry about what camera comes next

So far 100% wild life:

D1h and a Kenko 1.4 TC. But I've got some ideas for landscape too...

Long lenes are like a drug, now that I have one I want more, the 600mm f/5.6 because it is lighter and for sure somthing with auto-focus, maybe the Sigma 500 f/4.5 or the 300-800. And even though they wouldn't get me in the club a 400 f/3.5 or 300 f/2.8 for the DOF control.

So manys lenses, so little time (and $$$)

James

I can tell you either the Sigma 500 f/4.5 or the 300-800 will not dissapoint!

I will give the node to the 300-800 however, for it's versatiliat un zoom range and outstanding Bokeh. I know the Nikon's deliver outstanding performance, however, the Sigma's can offer a very attractive alternative for the price.
