Correct - and at half the price. But the competion for the 4 ink Epson 4400 is the 4 ink Designjet 70.

Cant seem to find a price at all on the HP site. Also note that the specs dont really say much about its ability to print photos.

The 4400 is definitely not meant as a photo printer, though I suppose some will try to use it that way. Remember that most of the first generation of photo printers were 4 color.

The 4400 (and I suspect this HP) is targeted at graphic artists, who mostly don't need an 8 color printer. I haven't seen a price quote, but I'd be surprised if the 4400 (and its larger siblings) aren't at least 20%-30% cheaper.

I don't believe they're going to start shipping these until September, so I'd expect prices to be announced in mid to late summer.

By the way, this Design Jet's specs don't seem to match the standards of the Epson 4400. Fewer DPI, USB 1.1, only the black ink is pigment-based, etc.
