Tried to get the upgrade for CS2 from CS was told I needed my 6.0 disk which I have but they need a reciept which I don't sense that was years ago but I have CS for 1 1/2 years with reciept and never had to many problems just your basic reactivation every time something Hic ups Whats the deal with Adobe why are they so un friendly and difficult, If I didn't already know there software I would check another out, this is so much harrasment on thier part. Held hostage by Adobe. Beware keep track of every piece of paper from adobe as they will make you prove ownership all the way back to the stone age

This is interesting news. I've heard that a good way to get CS2 at a discount is to buy a previous sealed version of PS 6.0 or PS 7.0 on ebay and upgrade. This would seem to be an effort to stop that practice.

Is this the situation for everyone? I would have thought CS2 would recognize that CS loaded and that would be it. What IS the story with loading CS2?

Well how this guy put it as being a long time employee he said they like to verify from the conception of your useage of photshop not from upgrade to upgrade I got very irritated with him and hung up. I than proceeded to call adobe again and asked for sales and they sent me my upgrade which will be here in a week. But the point is that they can demand proof from your orginal purchase and if you can't find it you could have a problem as in them charging you more money, he actually wanted my reciept for when I bought Elements 2.0 awhile back which I gave to my Dad, he was not very compromising and I was very disapointed in Adobe for that,

I guess I don't understand your problem.

I ordered my CS2 upgrade direct from the Adobe web site. The only number they wanted was from my credit card.

When I went to install the upgrade, it asked for me to insert an earlier version of Photoshop. I did, and everything went fine.

No previous serial numbers, no proof of a previous purchase, just the disk.

Maybe I was just lucky.

You say you bought the upgrade from Adobe. Would you share how you obtained your previous version of Photoshop? If it was from Adobe they might well have had a record of it. Just asking, and if you don't want to say anything about it, no hard feelings, please.

It strikes me that owning & using Adobe's latest products is just getting to be an unacceptable hastle. This is a great shame as their products are very good although too expensive for many - me included.

I hope Corel can stay out of this situation & their acquisition of Jasc & PaintShop Pro & now the release of a free RAW converter bodes well for the future.

A company whose mission is top provide a good product that serves the client well deserves to be supported & companies whose main mission appears to be maximizing profits needs to be cut down to size.

I have been a registered owner of PS since V 4. In the recent hassles of changing my computer, installing CS and then crashing the new computer, and needing to reinstall PS and get another activation, I found Adobe was very helpful and understanding.

Part of the problems some of you may be having is that you did not take the time to register your original software. So far I have always found Adobe to be great. But then, I have not tried to move up to CS2 yet.

I've bought all my upgrades from direct from Adobe.

Each time I've bought from them, I've had to create a new user account because I'd forgotten my old user name/password. I've also changed email addresses, so I don't know how the could have traced me.

I also Have registered every Adobe product from the conception of Elements but low and behold every time I go and purchase a upgrade they don't have my records available and issue me another customer number, I actually went through my reciepts today hopeing to find reciepts and for sure to find my Elements 2.0 receipt but to no avail I do have the books and orginal disc's as I said they don't keep records it seems in one place, now I'm very nervous as they have all the cards when I started it was just a hobby so receipts was no big deal now I keep receipts for all computer and camera equipment, The only reciept was my upgrade to CS that is currently found. Hope this doesn't become a nightmare as I am a Adobe fan I think.

If you all remember this summer their server went down for three or four days were you could'nt even activate any product durring that time is when it appears that my orginal customer ID number was lost, but acording to the long time employee the burden is mine to prove orginal purchase so keep your receipts or have a signed document from Adobe showing you are legitimitized, Will find out this weekened when CS2 comes if I have any problems I think it depends of who you get as like previous posters have said they are kind and efficient just hope I don't get another little hitler or to put it another way a control freak.

My CS2 upgrade went fine as well, as if I installed a full version. Maybe once it saw an older version of PS, it proceeded witht the installation.
It didn't even ask me for the original disk.

The activation process is a breeze as well.

I registered all my current and previous Adobe products, and currently logged in when I did the activation.

By the way, I ordered the CS2 direct from the Adobe website as well.

I left cs on my computer and installed cs2 with no need to place the old disc in the computer during installation. I then uninstalled cs after cs2 was installed. I have registered all previous adobe products. I use premiere pro 1.5, after effects 6.5, encore DVD 1.5, and now photoshop cs2. I believe they allow you to activate their software on two computers without paying extra, as I have been able to do on all these products.

This was really a hassle because CS2 requires v5.5 or higher for the std install routine. 2 tech support phone calls and 4.5 hours later I finally got it installed. Tech was patient, friendly but the customer service people were useless, had to speak with a real technian to get it going. It required the old serial number off the registration card of v4.0.

While they are doing lots of work to reduce piracy, it's gotta be costing them a king's ransom on the support personnel they need to get others upgraded...

Hmm... I've ordered products directly from Adobe about 8 or 9 times and never had them ask me for a receipt for a previous version. For that matter, I can't remember them ever asking for a serial number from a previous version, either.

But aside from all that, I have to wonder....

What does this have to do with activation?

And why would you throw out your original product CDROM? Even if you threw out the packaging and manual to save space, why wouldn't you save the CDROM itself?

Mike

If you are referring to me I have all booklets and cd roms and don't throw any software out This all started with trying to buy CS2 upgrade from adobe, unfortonatly I got an old time employee who was really overzealous and said that they could'nt find my old records so they gave me a new customer number and than he said do you have receipts which I didn't but he made a pretty big deal over it and I had to hang up out of frustration and recalled Adobe and made sure I got ahold ofsales inwhich they took my order, now I'm waiting and hopefully It will install with old CS or 6.0Disc which I see no problems but the point being is you can and I did get hassled pretty intensive over a 4 year old receipt.

just have the problem, that my activation changes everytime when switching from acrobat to one of the other cs2 suite programms! I am talking to adobe now for over two weeks - with no effect and I have to admit, that it needs a lot of energy to stay polite!
It is hard to realize to be at so.'s mercy!

after a month later they give me a patch and now it works perfect.
but it is hard to understand why it needed on hole month!

So what happens if you upgrade to a new version and then want to sell the older version on ebay?

I am a new purchaser of CS2 from adobe. Got a great deal on the full version from them. But I assumed that if I bought CS3 or whatever when it came out that I could just sell the old version (CS2) to recoup some of my cash. What do you think???

Tim

Legally you shouldn't do this but I'm sure people do. You would have a big problem though if you ever needed to re-install the upgrade as it would ask for the original disk.
