After searching and googling and more searching, trying to find a good price in the uk. I don't like spending a lot of money on the internet and was wondering if Jessops will pricematch at £969.99.

Yes, no typing error. £969.99, 20d body and 18-55 kit lens. They do the body only for £914.99.

I found another company who also can do the body only price of £914, but their kit lens option is £165 more?

So my big question. Will Jessops drop their price with £130?

BTW I found both companies on dpreview. While saving for a 20d, I've got lots of time reading through the forums.

cheers

As long as you take the print out of the website and that web site is British based then Jessops should price match.

I got my 580ex flash from Jessops after they priced matched a web site down to £270.

So go for it, I've been looking for s 20D myself so I might just follow that again.

Regards
Dave

Dave -

I picked up just today from local Jessops a new 18-50 f2.8 Sigma for my 300D. Whilst there (it was quiet in the shop) we had a pleasant and long chat and as I mentioned that my good email friend in Georgia had a 20D it prompted him immediately to drag out of the cabinet a 20D body - he said "your battery and card will do" .. which was fine as it WAS shooting on my own card...and OH BOY !!

If you want a 20D ...GO FOR IT ...nothing to lose if they WILL match that (phenomenal) price ... first site mentioned above...of £900+ WITH KITLENS.

I still maintain the Jressops later kitlens ... the one with USM , is a FAR better lens than the earlier. I get super pics out of it and on the 20D it produced some wonderful shots. I really am tempted at THAT price. I think if I'd pushed I could have got the one today (body only of course) at £950 , but he did say they hadn't found many cheap ones to match ...until this !! WHO ARE THEY though ? Anybody know of them and reliability. Says immediate delivery ??? .. ?

They are not uk based. Pixmania(france) and 7dayshop(channel islands or something). Some of their products also are grey imports. As for pixmania their 20d sells with a french manual and a 2-pin plug for the charger.

... but they do great prices.

I'll see if jessops will match those websites I listed earlier on saturday.

Local jessops had nothing in stock 20d out of stock 2weeks 17-85usmis out of stock will be for about 3 weeks. so being local got all at 7days shop and with the money saved also got a battery grip all in 2 days of placing order. Now all I have to do is work out how to use it

True and have you seen their returns policies?

How about the first site mention here?
http://www.rankhour.com

http://www.rankhour.com/terms_conditions.php mentions 25% handling fee if returning goods under the EU distance selling law? Is that even legal?

Warehouseexpress.com are doing the body only at £959 (£20 less since last week or so) and are very good. For the sake of a few quid on this kind of money is it worth the hassle?

With 17-85 the kit price isn't as sharp as it was pre-price reduction (only £40 cheaper than buying seperately) but still pretty good at £1369
Got my gear there and they've been excellent so far.
Getting some more this week or next too! ;-)

... was and still is to see if jessops wil pricematch rankhour.com or svcdigital. Since both are uk based and have stock or so i believe there shouldn't be a problem, but jessops going down £130 on the 20d + kit lens?

Buying from jessops means returning a faulty item would be no problem.

have to wait and see till sat.

I've been selling stuff like crazy on Ebay, car parts, car manuals, an Acoustic guitar, not used camera bag etc... all to try and fund getting a 20D.

I'm about half way there, so I'm thinking:

1:- Get Jessops to Price match.
2:- Hope they do a buy now pay later policy
3:- Get New 20D
4:- pay off rest just before the interest payments start.
5:- Try hard to remove chesire cat like grin.

Dave

I believe that Jessops do do a buy now pay later plan. They will NOT pricematch against 7dayshop.com as I have tried in the past.

One of the websites that sparta mention at the start of this thread is UK based so I'll do what he's gonna try.

As we say up here in Newcastle "shy bairns get nowt"

Dave

I forgot to tell you that jessops have matched both svcdigital and rankhour.com before. I just can't find the threads again.

Another thing is, the price dropped so much from then at svcdigital and rankhour that it's almost to good to be true if jessops matched them

thanks for all input

Khamelion,

As your in Newcastle, I got my 20D from the Jessops in Durham. They price matched first to BerridgeMail.co.uk and then I rang Cecil Jacobs in Newcastle and they had an even lower price which the Jessops store again matched.

They also matched a 1GB cf card to ebuyer, but this may just have been because I said yes on the 20D.

Jessops in Cambridge did match 7day for me!

Bought a couple of lenses and a scanner and they did super prices on those! i guess you got to go to the shop and do your best and if they really want to make the sale - they might just match it!

Give it a try - its worth it for saving a 100 bobs!

I always get my kit from Jessops as they allow returns and their service is ace and if you insist they WILL price match almost anyone- but you have to insist!

Hell, they still make a nice markup even on those low pricess so no need to worry about them....

Keep it up Jessops - and i'll keep spending those 1000sss of £££ at your shops :-)

From memory they matched at £1050 in mid Feb 05 for the 20d & Kit lens.

The list price on the Jessops website at the time was in the low £1200's

£1050 equalled the likes of 7 day shop & Pixmania, but of course I got a UK camera and a local shop to return to if anything went wrong.

I suppose I have two chances of finding a Jessops that wil price match, as I'm in Leeds through the day and I know that the big Jessops in the Merian center will price match. If they don't I always have Newcastle at the weekend.

I'm also toying with getting the battery grip or the 17-40L at the same time, though I may wait as I'm sure that a new 20D comes with a books of vouchers for money back on Canon kit.

I looked and looked and I hope that SOMEBODY can at least tell me just WHO and WHERE is this http://www.rankhour firm that was first mentioned very early in this thread.

After loooking and looking I still can't seem to see much detail. I DO see they appear to sell just about everything .. bit like the Ebuyer firm , and I bought an item off latter about a month ago and had to send it back as it just didn't work !. No handling or anything but of course post costs and the bother is a pain - as opposed to a Jessops over-the-counter.
Love dealing with them just for that - it CAN be well worth it.

But after buying a 18-50 Sigma from them yesterday , and followed by AT LEAST an hour with the 20D in my hands , using MY battery and card, I'm now chomping at the bit ....and at the http://www.rankhour price of £976 in fact inc. eveything....kitlens AND post ...AND if it IS a genuine UK product and NOT refurbished (as I wonder about these sites that are not regular dealers but sell like Woolworths)....well - WILL Jessops match them ?
Anybody found out yet ??
