Hi All,

Does anyone know the capacity of the inkjet cartridges for the R1800 and the approximate price in uk

Thanks in advance

Chris

I believe the poster is requesting a ml amount which is written on the cartridges sold in the UK.True, the R800 and R1800 use the same 8 cartridges.

Taking a guess I would say 15ml while the 2100 is 17ml.

I think it's around 13ml - 15ml.
I have just received my order of R1800 printer. Havent unpacked it.

Epson never reveal the cartridge capacity to public. the page yield is "bogus" too.

Besides, with the cartridge's sponge, I dont think any printer can use 100% of ink in cartridge.

Epson do put the quantity on the cartridge packages in the UK - 13ml for the R800 cartridges (compared to 17ml for the 2100)

Hi All,

Thanks for that useful information - 13ml seems to be approximately the same quantity as the Hp8750. I am trying to decide between the Epson R1800/HP 8750 and the HP Designjet 30 (uses 69ml Cartridges). This seems a huge difference. But I was wondering if there are any downsides to the DJ30 in terms of image quality etc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Chris

I wouldn't decide between them, on the basis of the amount of 'ink' sloshing around in their cartridges, because they are very evenly matched in terms of cost of ink per print.

It could even be a tough call as to longevity of prints, but the evidence that I've seen, which may be flawed, is that the Epson inks/paper have the edge in fade-resistance.

The HP is a 3 color cartridge that has a total of 13ml for the 3 colors.Thats 4.3ml per color. Some of the other cartridges for the HP are even less volume for the 3 colors. The Epson has one color in one cartridge and it's 13ml for each of the eight cartridges.Three colors for the Epson is 39ml compared to the HP's 13ml.

Hi All,

Just to pick up on Batty's comment regarding the price per print being approximately the same. I'm really suprised about that when you compare the 69ml of the DJ30 with either of the other two( which have far less ink in their cartridges.

How can this be possible - I'm not very well up on ink consumption.

Thanks again

Chris

It was an in-depth review of inkjet printing costs in the February 2005 issue of PcPro magazine (a UK publication).

I've found the first half of the article on-line, but the tables and conclusions, in a separate Feature Article, entitled, "Inkjets Exposed", don't seem to be up.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/124/inkjet-printers/introduction.html

They used real world costs of ink cartridges and manufacturers' paper, leading to a cost calculation per 10"x8", A4 page, 7"x5" and 6"x4".

Here are a few, in UK pence per 10"x8" (ink and paper costs)...

168p - Canon ip8500
187p - Epson R800
189p - HP 3845
193p - HP 8450
194p - Canon i905d/i965
202p - Lexmark P915

The article is very long and comprehensive, including fade tests; I can't imagine why they have not yet put it on-line (maybe their advertisers leant on them?).

Hi Batty,

Thanks for that great info - however I would have expected the Hp8750 or HP8450 and the Epson R800 or R1800 to be pretty similar. What I would be very interested to see is a comparable costing for the HP designjet 30 as their cartridges hold 69ml compared to approx 13-15ml of the other two.

Does anyone have that info?

Thanks again Batty I'm going to read that article thoroughily now, at first glance I didn't see DJ30 mentioned
