I tried taking pictures of stars, but the bugs were really bad, so I only got two shots. The other one is bad because the tripod moved. Any suggestions on how to improve them?

If you are serious about this, you may want to get a telescope, decent astrophotography starts at 1000mm and the s70 goes only up to 100mm or sth.

there is rapture in the lonely shore,
there is society where none intrudes,
by the deep sea, and music in its roar;
I love not Man the less, but Nature more.'

This is an area of interest of mine as well... unfortunately with a simple tripod + P&S digicam, we are pretty much limited to wide-angle shots of large sections of the night sky i.e. shots of constellations.

Was there a specific object you were trying to capture? Or did you simply point your camera towards they sky and hit the shutter button? ;) I was trying to figure out which area of the sky you were shooting but couldn't quite make it out.

Since none of the stars will be visible via the LCD (and barely so in the viewfinder), it takes a bit of trial and error to get the camera aimed correctly.

The easiest thing to do is to probably to try and capture constellations with bright stars that are easily identifiable by the casual observer i.e. Big Dipper/Ursa Major, Cassiopeia, Orion. It's also a good idea to consider doing a bit of noise reduction afterwards
