I recently purchased the 730PS...and like many other here I love it...but the colors aren't 'quite' right.

For my testing, I'm taking the images from my 20D into PSCS and applying a little sharpening, cropping, and, sometimes, auto levels. When these images are printed on the 730PS, the output colors are not quite right. A bit yellow and...

I've gone into 'Adjustor' and, after alot of trial and error, have thus far come up the following color adjustments to get a decent output.

Contrast: +21
Red: -25
Blue: +17
Sharpening: +55
Saturation: -10

These are just my intial tests...so I'm sure they will change a bit. But it's a start.

Anyone else care to share what their adjustments are? I'd love some input from others, as I'm sure alot of people would like to know.

Mind you, I've not calibrated my monitior (I know, I know...I must get it done)

Thanks!

Hello Dave,

you are in the right way. I have similar settings when using this printer.
I don't have my exact settings, but these are my feelings:
  • less red (to hot)
  • more blue (to yellow)
  • more sharpening (to flat) -> Personaly, I put someting like +15 and I add some "intelligent sharpening" in PS with USM.
I will have a try with your setting later.

Regards,

Michel

Do you want try color management? It is not easy to implement but improve more about precise color. Here is a link of a thread I wrote about using color management: http://www.hi-ti.com/usa/forum/detail.asp?bid=HTA010000116 . If you want try, mail to me.

to be a waste of time when I was using my Hiti. Given that you only use 1 type of media it just seemed so much easier to just get the thing properly profiled rather than go through a lot of trial and error. JMHO.

You are right, you can win a lot of time if you have the correct profiles. But there is another setting that is important for fine tuning this printer: the sharpness. The prints are too blurry and flat.

I don't think that it's possible to adjust the sharpness with profiles. So, maybe the best way to use the printer is a combination with the profile (for color) and the adjustor (for sharpness/contrast).

What do you think?

Thanks for the tip! ;-)

Btw, how did you created your profile?

I as only thinking about the color but you are right the profiles will have no effect the sharpness. My Mitsu has to have the sharpness adjusted also in the driver.
You are right, you can win a lot of time if you have the correct
profiles. But there is another setting that is important for fine
tuning this printer: the sharpness. The prints are too blurry and
flat.

I don't think that it's possible to adjust the sharpness with
profiles. So, maybe the best way to use the printer is a
combination with the profile (for color) and the adjustor (for

mitsubishi 9500DW i guess? ;-)

Close 9000 :-)

Sometimes I wish I had the 9500 but I really dont need it. I do 4x6s in glossy and pretty much use luster or matte for anything bigger.

Last but not least tip!

Be aware when you are increasing (to much) the sharpness on the driver because it rise up the grain and it lowers the picture quality.

So if your prints are to flat, maybe you have to increase the sharpness with the driver (basic sharpening) and if you need some extra sharpening (when the jpg file is blurry) you will use PS with the unsharp mask (intelligent sharpening). The key is to use the good balance.

My feelings are that you what you see on your screen has to be printed. But don't use excessive sharpening or contrast...

Saw your post... downloaded the profile this morning, followed HiTi's instructions for printing from PS and YES! That slight yellow cast is GONE without adjuster! Good Riddens!

Many thanks for the heads up!.
I found HiTi released the new icc profiles for every model. I
download the profile for 730 to try the performance. That is really
better than before. I suggest all HiTi users who has color problems
could try this new one. The link is
