What does the DSCN mean in the photo numbering (i.e. DSCN0001, DSCN0002, etc.)?

Can you rename the photos to something else (for example, 995X0001, 995X002)?--Den

Yes, you can rename the pics when you save them. But when you do, I believe the camera will no longer be able to read the information.

you can rename the after downloading...

grab firmware 1.1, hex edit 0x124DBC,D,E to something else (
3 letters only)

save it,

pray , twice , include another religion just in case.

load uploaderusb.exe in the to debugger stick a breakpoint at
0x401CED, its a jz short to a ret, with an lea after it.
set the ip to the address of the ret. 0x401d25 and run
it , follow instructions.

tadah! filenames are now different, NIKN is a good one.... I'
have a feeling if you remove the whole string to a 0, it might
write out a filename with a more than 4 digit number, but
thats speculation and heresay, something perhaps overheard
in a welsh public house.

possibly return camera to nikon for repair =)

I think DSCN stands for Digital Still Camera Nikon. Sony's digital photos start with DSC (ex. DSC02345).
