B/W 3pics

[Plebian]

I shot these the same day as my Challenge entry, 'bout a month ago. The Fort pic was just playing around in post but I liked the look. The other two were inside the Fort at two of the many displays. The angry look'n fella shot I added a very slight sepia tone. Pipe guy was a trade canoe display showing beads, pelts, and other trinkets. I cloned out two standing canoe paddles that were against the back wall and several other items around his head; part of a beaded pouch and peices of feathers. The wisp of smoke at the pipe was added, the smoke exiting his mouth was captured in the shot. Comments, critiques, questions, always welcome. Tks.

I liked the first pic, did you inverse the colours to give it the look of a B&W negative. I like the effect though.

Second image, I thought was ok but didn't throw to much at me.

The third image was really good, as its in B&W it seems to freeze time that little bit more and conveys a deep moment of thought while smoking the pipe.

Chris, in the first pic, using Psp9 I converted to gray scale then changed the color to negative image. I couldn't recall which was applied first however, so I went back and tried both. It seems, at a glance, that either/or gave the same result. After that it was contrast adjusting and noise reduction. I believe I used the salt and pepper filter on the default setting and adjusted to include all lower sized specks. Tks.

nice BW work, the grey is very rich in tones and the textures of wood and fur are very sharp.

I'm not sure what to say about the first negative picture. For sure belongs to a different style and mood and is better to see this not together with the other two; the first shot remember me the BW movie of the witch. The negative is so used in horror movies that will create IMO an association with fear.

Also the other two photos have something strange, probably because the subjects are actors that are posing; they know that you are shooting, but they continue to act.

Mirel, thank you for your thoughts, most informative. So right you are, I should have separated the first from the other two. It doesn't belong. Soon as I read that I understood. They were shot at the same place within the same hour but the difference (a major one at that) is in the post processing. Separation did not occur to me.

I don't think I know the movie you mention, Blair Witch Project perhaps? If so, I've not seen it. Not much of a movie buff, only two in the past twelve years. The correlation is there however, the pic does have that sense of fear and forboding. It was nothing more than an exercise in exploration of post.

Yes, that something strange is there, subtle, but there. Keen observation. I'm finding that since getting serious about using my camera, past five months or so, I'm seeing things that were not seen before.

Yes, The Blair witch. It 's very interesting movie because the (faked) accidentals shoot give the impression of real and fear.
