Hi all,

Can someone answer my simple question. Have searched and I know what the G stands for (not having an aperture ring) but wondering about how this works.

I only (at the moment) have the kit lens - the 18-70 ED-IF AF-S DX.

Currently thinking about the 70-300 D ED AF lens

Looking at the difference and working out what they mean.

At the moment I set aperture size using the command dial on the D70. However the 70-300 has an aperture ring (unlike the lens I currently have).

So in operation what does this mean?

Obviously you can select aperture size using the ring, fine...

But, can you select the aperture size using the camara body, and this setting is passed on to the lens, or can you only alter aperture by using the ring?

Thanks for answering this simple question.

--Regardless if is G or non G with aparetur ring D70 works only with camera command dial to ajust aparature. You just need to set lens to min. settings and lock it.
