Obviously the original thread was removed so I have to start a new one.

I sent in my camera to get the backfocus fixed. Nikon sent a confirmation/estimate when they got the camera. They serviced it quickly and sent it back next day airmail for free and of course the whole service was covered by the warrenty. They made sure I got it back before the holydays! It was very unfortunate that I took off the last two days so I didn't have the camera, but that was totally my fault.

When I wrote them an email they very quickly responded with every detail (tracking number, dates). It could not have been more professional. I have a lot of trust in Nikon Serve now which definitely makes it easier for me to invest more in lenses and maybe more cameras.

I just feel I need to let everyone know this, because usually only people who had bad experiences post their frustration and this provides a distorted image.

Thanks for sharing that Octane. Been some interesting posts lately about Nikon, pro and con. Nice to hear about a good experience. Hope you have smooth sailing from here on. Have a good one.

my internal speedlight stopped functioning for some reason. i sent it back to torrance on the 15th of december- resigned to the fact that i will have to shoot film for the holidays (i know i should've waited for the holidays to pass before sending it in rather than take the risk).

anyway, i kept checking the web site for status and it turns out that the camera was a C type repair (major). i thought i would have to wait for, at minimum 2 weeks. nevertheless, i got a very pleasant surprise when my camera came in on the 23rd (overnight).

only negative was that the UPS man left the box in my front door where anyone could have easily picked it up.

I forgot to add that the focus has been adjusted in an interesting way. It seems that they can adjust the AF module by software just shifting the focus point to the back or front. (I remember someone else here mentioned that already). My camera had clear backfocusing, but the AF focused on the subject fine. It looked perfectly in focus on the viewfinder screen. Only the actual photo showed the backfocusing.

After the service the actual photo is correct but now the viewfinder showes a little frontfocus.

The only explanation I have is that they somehow shifted the AF focus point to the front witchout adjusting the main mirror.

Don't get me wrong, the really small front focus in the viewfinder doesn't bother me because I know my photos are fine.

I had an opposite experience with California center.

I sent my camera to fix the backfocus and remove some dust from inside of my kit lens.

First of all I had to prove that the camera has focusing issue. So I send the a picture that illustrate the backfocus and they have agreed to work on it.

The whole process took 3 weeks. They did not provide any time estimates until the last day when the camera was actually shipped back.

To my biggest surprise it looks like they did nothing: still have a backfocus, got more dust in the lens and CCD has the same dust spot that I had before the service, even if they claimed it as cleaned!

Now I am planning to repeat the process. So far I lost some money paid for the shipping to CA.
