I'm working in CS and for some reason, I cannot seem to use any tools. When I move the mouse around, it's just the hand tool, no matter what tool is selected in the toolbox. What's going on?

if I click the Spacebar that usually unsticks the handtool. Have you tried rebooting or closing PS and reopening?

Thanks, I guess it fixed itself. I had closed out of CS and then reopened but nothing changed. So I closed out and left it alone for awhile and then it was fine.

Thanks for the response though! :)

I often have the same problem - no matter what tool I select, the brush tool remains active. The only thing to do is to quit Photoshop and start it up again. Sometimes this happens only once in a week, today it is happening every 10 minutes - which drives me nuts. I keep trashing the preferences and restarting Photoshop - everything works fine for 5 or 10 minutes- and suddenly it's the brush tool again that gets selected and remains stuck there.

Does anybody have similar experiences with Photoshop CS? Never had this with earlier versions of Photoshop.

So? This selects the Brush tool - which is already active anyway. No matter which tool I select - hand tool, text tool, crop tool - they all give me the brush tool and no other tool can be used.
Very annoying.

Just a theory...is it possible that the computer is running out of memory and there is a very long delay because of memory swapping?
