Thats right, folks. The D2H is basically a digital P&S thrust inside an F5 body.

In fact I will even say that there are point and shoot digicams that have better image quality and of course far better resolution.

Nikon was taking a real beating from Canon and they had to take this desperate step. The question is what took them so long ?

But somehow even $1999.99 seems too high for this camera.

you have to be kidding. Do you own one? Have you ever even shot one? It is a wonderful camera. I have shot it, and seen photos that just cant be beat come from it. For a wildlife photographer, 8fps is just kick @ss.

How you could write such garbage as below is beyond me.

Again, have you shot it or do you own it, or are you just trolling to stir things up more?

overhyped lousy human being to begin with. In fact I will even say that there are sewer rats out there that have better cognitive quality and of course far better looks.

But somehow even $1999.99 seems too much to pay Tim to clean toilets at the Zoo.

Curious as to where you purchased your D2H from, sounds like you either got a lemon, or don't know how to shoot.

In that case why did you bother to reply, "it's just bored people and a camera. It's not like we insulted Your mother". get some perspective please.

Agreed.................... other than for a VERY small group of PJ users this is a lousy camera.

In a year, you'll be lucky to get $1K for the POS.

I find the gnashing of teeth over this VERY 'devaluation' amusing. The ONLY thing certain about the DSLR business is hugh price drops. Wake up and smell the refried beans, homey.

IMHO, this is the best news to be had.

I will stand by exactly what I said :

This is a P&S camera with F5 like features.Period. People are angry at my msg for 2 reasons :

1) They spent so much on a camera that produces above average images barely distinguishable from a $500 P&S camera at low ISO - in terms of noise and resolution. Compare that to those from the EOS 1D MkII and its a major embarrassment for Nikon.

2) My comment comes at a time when their 'investment' just plummeted.

The D2H is a black sheep in Nikon's pro lineup, and Nikon just admitted it. Heck, even the "lowly" D100 is holding its value, then whats with the D2H ??

I have handled the camera and have shot a few 'blanks' at a camera store. There is no question about the build quality, or features. Its superb.

But,

I have also looked at many straight-from-the-camera images at different ISOs. The proof is in the pudding, right ?

You've become a pro just by hoding it 2 minutes in the store? hahaha...

Please try not to sound too 'Ken Rockwellish' as zits might pop onto my face and blur my vision.

The D2H is a failure as a product. I don't own it and my comments is based on reviews. It has more noise than Canon 10D and 1D MII with much lower resolution. People can argue that 4 MP is good enought for PJ etc. Apparently, it is bombed in the market place. The drastic price lowering is really a bad idea. Nikon should quietly stop the production and keep the price stable. To an observer like me, Nikon seems to be in a distress condition in the pro market. Chances is D2X may be bomb again given the agressive pixel size. The lack of full frame comes back to haunt Nikon. If the problem is not fixed in 2005, we may left with only one dominant player in the pro market. That will be really unfortunate. The effect will be felt in the consumer dSLR market as well.

You're a victim of marketing my friend, straight and simple. It never seizes to amaze me at how gullible the average consumer is. “average” is an overstatement in this case.
