I Had the oportunity to test a camera here in Vienna before Release. I took pictures with the D7 and my Olympus C3030 (Tripod, same object, same Iso,..) The result was disappointing: There was almost no difference in resolution visible. There was a slightly better quality of D7 pictures, when I did some resampling for Printout (bikubisch- photoshop), The quality seems not enough for my target: to use pictures of a digital Kamera also for printout in magazines up to A4 (I know that this is the limit using all filters, resampling skillness I have).

Heat and AF problem I can confirm, other features of the camera are very positive: Makro with 13 cm distance is very good and usable !

Hmmm.... what do you mean by "almost no difference in resolution visible"?
D7 has 5mp, c3030 3mp, quality can be similar, but there are two more mp!

Prints on full A4 should show the difference, wonder why not in your case.

Christian must be sufferent from macular denergration, that would account for the apparent lack of quality perspective.

Christian,

If you're trying to see the quality/resolution difference then take those two shots and turn off (uncheck) Resampling when you resize them for your A4 print. The resolution of the D7 image will be higher than the C3030 image and their original file sizes will be maintained. Now print them at the same size and see what you get.

Using Photoshop's Resampling is aiding the C3030 image and probably hindering the D7 image.

Also, I'm not sure what you took a picture of. Try shooting something with a lot of detail and doing the above.

That' a stupid response to someone sharing information.

Christian,

Are you saying that there was no visible difference BEFORE resampling?

Just came back from the local store where I had a chance to take a look at actual 8.5x11 prints made with D7.

First impression – lens is very nice. At 28mm it is sharp edge-to-edge, no hosting , fall-offs or vingeting, distortion is not bigger than on my Nikkor 28-105. Details are very good, I couldn’t get better from 35 mm slides. Excellent details in both shadows and lights, colors slightly flat on my taste ( easy fix in PS), and I didn’t find any noise at all ( sky is very clean).

On the other hand I didn’t find any difference between D7 and prints from FP6900 and E10.

Camera should be in Toronto stores at the end of July – first week in August.
Price – $1,999 CAD (with bonus : 4 NiMH and charger included) at Vistek.

Christian,

Are you saying that there was no visible difference BEFORE resampling?
Yes, that is what I meant.

That is the reason why I was disappointed from the camera, but I will do the Test again with a camera from the shop, maybe the Test camera from Minolta was a prefabricated model, also the told me no.

Hello Christian

Did you get a chance to run your D7 images through the DiMAGE Viewer Utility (DIVU). Phil points out that "It's therefore important that you run your images through this utility to get them into some standard colour space for either viewing on a standard PC (sRGB), the web (sRGB) or even printing..."

No, I used the Jpg files without the software from Minolta, but I am not complaining about the colours, these where quite OK (purple fringing much better than with the olympus) but the resolution, not the number of pixels was not so good. What I want to say is that there is not much more detail in the pictures of the D7 than in the pictures of my Olympus. I dont care about the pixels, I can create them in ps.
