I am looking for buying a used D1 here in Germany, and ask me what is a fair price for it. Also for looking in future when the D1H and D1X become more available,

There are many People who sell pretty new D1s here, but they are only 10%-20% cheaper than a new D1h .
So what du you think should be a good Price for a used D1.

Can't say what a fair price is.

But you know the D1's history - what you don't know is any particular history for any particular D1 that comes to market. The Nikon revamped ones are arguable worth the 3K+ price, but better again would be the new D1h. A non-Nikon refurb would not realistically be worth anything to a second hand owner as the guarantee and the free revamp would not be available. I know of no way to tell the difference.

Hello Everybody

The D1 are holding their value due to the demand for them. A 10 to 20% drop from original price is very fair at this time, to my thinking.

Especially for a little used one that's not been a shooters ( Photo Journalists) camera.

I sold my D1 on ebay in early June. I got $3,300. I included (and advertised) the Nikon "silent upgrade" receipt that came back with the camera when I sent it in for repair of the noise problem. I don't know if that made it go for a higher price, but if I were buying a D1 today, I would want proof of the oscillator circuit.

Hey, I just got my "used" D1 for $2,000 (reputable mom and pop shop). It seems to be of a later batch, as I have posted a couple of images here at iso 1600 and have been told that it is better than some of their D1's 1600 images, and exibits no banding.

Either way I just purchased a "Mack" extended warranty, 2-Years only $60!!! That covers anything Nikons warranty would have, so im in the clear.

So, what do you think? $2,000 for the D1, and a 2-year warranty for $60, did i get a good deal?

The camera shows absolutely no use. Apparantly it was puchased by a wealthy man that wanted the latest "gizmo", hardly used it and returned it to the same store on consignment for a film scanner. Ive used it for a week now, and it is truly in MINT condition.

Did I pay too much though, with the new D1x out, and the D1h coming?

Unfortunately I would never be able to afford the $4,000 -$5,000 price tags. Besdies, You can buy some great peices of glass instead of $3,000 extra for the new D1x/h, no?

let me know what you think,

johnny

i think you got a steal!...it is exactly what I have been looking for. they all seem to be closer to 3k and like a previous writer noted you do not really know if it is the upgraded d1 or not

If you ever see another one in that range email me!

You made a find - I'd buy at that price myself - it just cannot be
too bad for 2Gs -- I'd say you got the cream!

Enjoy!!!
I hope that i get a similar Offer here. I think this is a very fair
Price for a D1.
Thanks, I thought I did, but it feels better knowing im not the only one!
plus, it just hit me today, with the money i save, i can get great lenses.

food for thought:

1. why spend $5,500 on a D1x (yeah its great), but the pros were happy with the results of the D1, so is twice the resolution really neccesary?

2. Twice the resolution (ie megapixels) means 2 times the space (more for tiff and raw), so how often would THAT be neccesary? PLus, the added expense for all the extra storage, compact flash ~ micro-drive ~ hard drive space etc.

In the end, I think the D1 is much more than any non-pro or i will ever need or use (maybe even enough for some pros too, no?).

thanks again,

johnny

Johnny,

I'd say you have a great deal on your hands, although, I'm not familiar with the extended warrantee that you mention. I would not sell my D-1(fixed) for less than $3000, but then, I know the camera, and I know what it can do, now that Nikon got off their duffs and repaired the problems. although, I would trade the thing for a good AF 300/2.8. You bring up the D-1x, and the price difference, all I can say there is, it IS worth every dime of the difference. For all practical conversation, it's a 6mp camera, built like a tank, and a lot easier to handle compared to the DCS cousin. I have been shooting mine for two weeks, and I am amazed everytime I stick a CF card into my card reader. You will enjoy your new camera!

Sounds fair, but I have looked at a couple that were in crap condition and they still wanted top dollar.
