I am considering buying my 12 year old her first camera (digital or film) for Christmas. I searched for any discussions on this camera but found very little. I am hoping to get any feedback on the ease of use of this camera as a beginner, quality, prints, etc. Your comments on the D-395 are appreciated.

Thanks,

Drummer,

I have been using the Stylus 300 as a pocket-cam and have been very pleased with the results. Maybe you could consider this as an alternative.

I recently bought one on e-bay for $125.00, not normal but if you do your thing they do come through.

Metal body and splash-proof, it might make some advantage given the user.

Ok, OT a bit but perhaps worth a thought.

Good Luck,

I've considered other cameras but price is a big consideration. Sounds like you did real good with the 300. Thanks for the response!

Yeah I own a D-395. Its worth the money and would make a good camera for a 12 year old.

My niece has a D-395, but is having trouble downloading images to her computer. When she connects her camera to the computer, it's not recognizing it.

I'm trying to help her (long-distance), so I've been poking around the Internet. Does the software that comes on the CD work with Windows XP? Or, alternately, is there an easier way for her to download? (She is connecting her camera to the computer via her USB cable.)

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Coogie

The software that came with the camera does work with xp. I have it. If she is having problems read through the following thread and it may help.

Man I forgot about this post! We did get her the 395.
