Back from the framers

Hey Jono,

They look great and once they are up on the wall at the gallery they won't last long. I hope you got a good deal on the framing.
Best of luck
Ron

Beautiful prints! The frames really set them off. Hard to tell from the pic but do you mind telling me what the frames are made of?

Wish I could be there for the opening... but, I ain't all that great a swimmer!!!

Nice stuff. I tried to click on a two of them. Shows how sleepy I am... the first click should have told me I was being stupid!

Jono,

They look great. Were they all framed/matted similarly for a reason other than to focus attention on the print? I'm certainly no expert, just learning, and wondered.

I remembered reading an article on framing and picking mattes, and wondered if you had a mindset? They went on a bit about picking out a color detail from the scene for the matte, but fell woefully short in mentioning criteria other than that it should attract the viewer and "bring them into the print..." Not exactly paint by the numbers for beginners. :-) Further, I recall no mention of framing criteria... Guess you can't define "taste"?

Hi Jono,

Are you going to put a sticker on each print telling the buyer that it is digital photography that they are buying?

Also intrigued to know - these are the prints for the exhibition, yes? Are you numbering them and selling as a limited run and to be totally crass - what are you (or the gallery) charging for them?

Regards,

Richard

Hi Ron

I hope you're right about them not lasting long - but I don't think photography sells all that well in this country - still, a lot of people say they're coming, so I might get a few charity sales!

As for the framing - I did get a deal, but it could have been better if I'd agreed for all the frames to be the same size - but I thought they'd look better slightly different sizes to match the prints.

and thanks!

Hi David

I understand photopoint's back, so we'll all be expecting Japanese pics soon - hope you're having a good time!

incidentally - the shots are at:

Hi Cliff
Thanks!

the wood is called 'tulip' over here - but it's actually some fine grained form of pine - not too expensive - it's been waxed with a whitish wax to bring out the grain a little.

Hi Tom

I still resent the fact that you ain't swimming - maybe Cheryl could swim (she seems good at the amphibian stuff) and you could have a ride on her back?
amplexus here we come!

As for Visa, I think they do, but I ain't sure - why would you ask?

HI Matt

Nice idea - I was thinking of using it as a 'thumbnail' for the web - but it'd be to slow I think.

You can click on them here if you want!

I hope you had a good sleep!

Hi Gerald
Thanks.

As for the framing - the gallery is fairly austere, all white and spotlights, so I didn't want anything too in yer face. As for the mounts, I'm not very partial to coloured mounts fot this sort of thing - I think photographs are best just kept simple.

Hi Richard
heheheh -

1. yes they are the prints for the exhibition (some of them anyway)

2. no I'm not putting a sticker on them, but I'll be doing a 'catalog' for the exhibition with a pretentious blurb about rythmn and colour, and I will certainly say that they are digital.

3. They are saved as .stn files and they are numbered in a limited run of 10 each.

4. The gallery are charging £90 each for them of which they take 30%. I'm not certain of the cost of each print framed, but I guess it's in the region of £25.00

A small sum will tell you that I'm not likely to make any money out of it, but I'm hoping to start selling cards off the back of it - possibly off the web site.

Well - I'm always accused of asking too direct questions - but they usually get the answers don't they!

:-)

Hi Jono,

Me, I'm just nosey. You certainly won't become a millionaire from it - but oh the satisfaction you must get having your own exhibition - and such a nice window for your work.

By the way, you are paying far too much for your frames....

One other thing - I find it hard to believe that you have a pretentious bone in your body. Pretentious, toi?!

Regards,

Richard
