Can you believe this eBay sale?

That's pretty much a full E1 kit - 50-200, 50 macro, and FL-50 flash. If it's a legit auction, someone got a steal at $1500. Dang - sell me that FL50, would you?

On the other hand, it's a 1 feedback seller, and a pretty messed up auction description. It could also be a scam... do you take a chance?

Nope. As you say, it is too fishy to accept on face value. And the mishmash between E20N and E-1 is confounding the issue. But feel free to write the partyies to see if he or she has a bill of sale( or if this item is "hot."It happens)Remember the French caper where a batch of D70s were heisted? It would be the only way anyone would go for a big loss like that
I wouldn't and eBay sellers are no dopes.

I am dubious about super bargains- some things are just not logical, Captain, says Mr Spock...:-)

I figure this at better than $2500. What am I missing other than
that E-20 insert in the ad?

I'm shocked that the reserve was met. Would not suprised if this was hot, but if not, and it's an E-1 not E20, WOW! Someone got mightly lucky.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

I almost bid, but having been a buyer & seller on eBay for over 6 years, I smelled somthing fishy here. No way will I pay for something when the only option is a Western Union payment, & to a "newbie" without any really legitimate eBay presence. I was very tempted to write the winning bidder if they actually got the stuff.

There have been several E-1 scams on eBay over the past 2 weeks. I reported 4 of them alone to eBay--all by different legit sellers who had had their eBay IDs hijacked--in all cases eBay deleted the auctions. Before I took my action, the same ad had appeared 3 different times & each time someone else reported the scam. It was a buy-it-now deal on the same complete kit, but with a price of $800!

That seals it. Nobody with two active brain cells pays inside the US with a wire transfer for an auction. There are too many other, safer ways to settle an auction. International, yes. Inside the US - it just isn't done.

That's a scam. I kinda feel sorry for that poor guy who's about to lose a pile of money.

This seller really confuses matters by not only showing pictures of different cameras but by listing two different descriptions of the E20N and E1. Look towards the bottom of the listing and you'll see what I mean. That can't be a mistake.

The seller also has sold only one other item before...a pair of headphones. And the buyer of the headphones, well, you guessed it...had only one feeback. Yikes, that's one auction where I wouldn't want to be the winner.

I actually thought about bidding on that item, but when I emailed him well before the end of the auction asking about the E-20n info and whether it would be possible to use http://www.escrow.com if I paid the fees because he is a new seller I received no response. On eBay if a deal seems to good to be true then it most likely is. I have been screwed to the tune of $800 before on a laptop I never received.

I really hope I am wrong in this case though and the buyer is now a happy E-1 user...

TANSTAAFL, especially on ebay.

10% of all transactions involve active fraud.

Probably the majority of the rest are deceptive and/or defective in some way carefully NOT mentioned in the ad.

Ebay is the natural home of 3 card monte players... and losers.
The only winner on ebay is ebay itself.

If you really want to find out if the item is as advertised, tell the seller you insist on picking it upin person. If its a square deal, they won't mind having you find out where they live. If it isn't a square deal, you'll get every excuse in the book why you can't pick it up.

And a wire transfer to boot?

I got mine (with the 14-54mm lens) from someone on ebay for a good deal myself. Not as good as this person, but still a good deal. I was really nervous about it all, but he came through. I guess he's a member of this forum as well, because he gave me the url to join it.

Did you ask the buyer to keep you posted?
