Praktica Luxmedia 5003

I believe it is rather the same product from the same producer. Praktica is the successor of Zeiss Icon, inventor of the slr camera and many more things also long times after the war. It is an east German firm from the city of Dresden with good reputation in the former east block. Once in the far past it was the biggest camera producer of the world. They are back onto the market for some few years now (they collapsed after Germanies reunifuication), but they started porducing for the Chinese market first. Recently they had some good news in the media, about their photokina stuff. They are also again owner of the Exakta brand, but Exakta (still) stands for low quality ultra tele lenses somewhere from Asia, in the far past Exakta was a highest consumer quality brand.

The Luxmedia from Praktica.de is produced in Germany and Polaroid as far as I know is also a German manafacturer, but another firm. I believe this is a western German firm which procuded such "picture by now" film cameras in the past. Probably they just cooperate.

These cameras are made in China or Taiwan...I am pretty sure of that...if you look at their range cameras I think you will see many models with the same specs and slightly different styling.

I bet Praktica is little more than a boxing and branding company now, a bit like Jenoptik is also...buying in models from an OEM or ODM manufacture in the far east...a shame they used to made crude but useful 35mm cameras...how times change... The name maybe proudly labelled FROM GERMANY on the website, I doubt any gerans had anything to do with the design...

The Luxmedia 4008 model is produced for some other Far eastern companies also

So you can see with a little delving into the global camera market, you can expose the MYTHS about European camera manufacture...and possibly design too... We've become victims of the advertising companies and other perveyors of half and un- truths. Marketing people...don't believe what you read in magazines claiming "Lens from Germany", or "German manufacturer", most of us couldn't afford a camera produced there... etc etc....I've said it before...they're about as german as sushi..
