Do you shoot RAW or Jpegs ? If jpegs, what settings on the Mark II? Thanks.

raw +jpg. the jpg makes for a better workflow. raw saves the pic at times. If I am totally confident of the lighting and color balance I shoot jpg only. +3 sharpness, aRGB mostly

I'm not competent enough to shoot jpgs. C1 makes the RAW workflow painless — I put thousands of images a week through it. If I ever did need quick jpg output, BreezeBrowser will virtually instantaneously extract the CR2 file's very nice embedded 1024x1536 jpg.

My concern isn't workflow it's storage on the CF cards: only 180 or so on a 2 gig card in RAW and buffer size: only 17-19 shots in RAW verse 38 or so jpeg. You said sharpness +3, what about tone curve and contrast ? You said aRGB, what about saturation and color tone? Or do you decide once you see the light at the time? Thanks.

I've not "upgraded" my CF cards yet so I only have 1/2 the storage that I used to carry with my 1D. Hence, I find with the M2 that I'm using JPEG where subject/need allow it, but I prefer to use RAW when possible especially under artificial lights where AWB just doesn't cut it. Why not CWB you may ask? Because in several stadiums I shoot the white balance changes significantly from the mid field to the end zones due to varying lights and reflections from the field.
And I carry 16GB worth of CF cards.

AWB indoor gym and night stadium, as another poster noted, the lighting conditions change depending on where one is at on the field, AWB is a good a setting as CWB in my experience in this situation.

This fall I'll really be giving the MK2 a workout with night football games.

Also, I mostly use AI Servo with the center focus point selected. I lock on the subject with the center focus point and follow the movement, snapping away. Anyone use all 45 points and let the camera select the focus point? How do you find the 45 point AI Servo results? I'm afraid to use it but I keep thinking that's one reason I spent $4500 and not $1500 for a 10D or 20D.

I've never had occasion to need more than 10 or 15 frames at high speed. If I did, obviously jpg would be the way to go. I don't use any tone curve or contrast curve when shooting sports events. In fact I don't use them at all, preferring to do it in post. I know many portrait people use such and sometimes when I do portraits I'll set the contrast one notch lower, but again, normally not. Just about anything that can be done in post I prefer doing it there, but with sharpness I can pretty much tell you that for any sports shots I'll want to bump it up so it's at +3 normally. I'm doing some senior pics tomorrow morning and I'll set contrast down one notch and have no sharpening added. I'll set a curve in post for each pose and apply them as a group in pscs. If I am shooting subdued colors that I don't think will be out of sRGB gamut (like portraits) I am more likely to use sRGB, but most sports involve high contrast, punchy colors, best left to Projpg or Adobe.

I use it too and it works fine. I shoot raw only as I am not 100% sure of the jpeg quality.

I want to here from Nill also but thought I would give you my setting for info:

I use C1 with 1 bump from bottom on NR and soft 200,3 for wedding shots (don't need them too sharp).

For sports and wildlife I use no NR and no sharpening on C1 (I leave sharpening set kind of high, for viewing in C1 but click the "no sharpening for output" box). I then use PS CS with Neatimage for high ISO (> 800) shots (very mild settings and NI noise profile generated from tool). Maybe a little contrast or level adjustment. I then sharpen with Flexsharp (settings 4m to 7m). Print with Qimage using printer/paper profile and set to printer intrinsic resolution (600dpi for Canon printers).

I most often use the center point only with CF17-2. Too often in shooting team sports 45-point will choose something to focus on other than what I have in mind, and because the auto-selected focus points don't light up in AI servo, I don't know that it missed till afterwards when it's too late.

It sure works great for birds and aircraft in flight though.
