I ordered something (grrr not again) from B&H on 8/11. I wanted to play with it this weekend so I paid extra money to have it sent 2 Day Air. The package reached Chantilly, VA on Friday 8/13 morning and tracking status showed "5.02 a.m. out for delivery". I was on tenterhooks all day, waiting for my purchase to show up. When it didn't show up till 7.25 p.m. I called 1-800-PICKUPS who said they could not reach the driver after 7:00 p.m. Fancy that. She said that all packages will be delivered so I waited till 8:45 p.m., keeping another photog friend waiting (we were supposed to fire up the grill and take pics of some sizzlin' ribeyes heh heh heh). The package did not show so I left at 8:45 p.m. and went to his place. I checked around 9.30 p.m. and their website said "Package Delivery Missed".

I called B&H and they said they would call UPS. But I called UPS to complain. They said they would have the local office call me on Monday. I just received a call from someone who said that the driver would deliver the package by evening. I asked why couldn't the driver deliver the package now, she said "he's delivering next day airs now". So I said "you messed up my second day delivery... where's your service recovery?" She mumbled something about trying to get in touch with the driver, and hung up.

So I called UPS Corporate Customer Service at (404) 828-4300 and filed a complaint with a very nice lady who heard me out. She said she would initiate a customer service complaint against the local office.

I wish B&H/Henry Posner would listen to all the complaints against UPS and just switch over to a more reliable carrier. Thanks to UPS' callous attitude, my Friday evening and complete weekend's plans down the drain. They suck.

When I ordered my MK2 from Adorama I used UPS 3 day. The camera arrived the NEXT day. I live in AZ, on the opposite side of the country from Adorama. UPS has my vote.

I assume the "something" was something expensive? The only problems I've had with UPS is when I order L lenses. B&H won't ship without requiring a signature, and it seems UPS always manages to show up when I'm not home. The last experience, I sat around all day waiting, only to find they put a sticker on my door (didn't knock, just put the sticker on my door). One pervious order I left the house for literally 20 minutes -- you guessed it, the UPS guy showed up in that 20 minutes. I've also had the experience where something was listed as "out for delivery" but they just didn't get around to it that day.

On other stuff, where they leave it at the door, UPS seems to do fine.
My next L purchase is going to go via another carrier.

standard option. I ordered a 100 macro from them last week and it arrived in a repacked box and when I opened it, it was completely destroyed. They had the guts to repack it as if nothing had happened. Then the replacement arrive one day late because they sent it to the wrong city at the sorting hub. I once send a package to Kingstown in St. vincent and they sent it to Kingston, Jamaica. I called them to have it rerouted and it was returned to Miami and then rerouted to Jamaica again . This rerouting was done 6 times and went to Jamaica every time. I just called them said your throw the package to the garbage can. Aparently they don't know how to read. So I finally I sent it to St. Vincent by FedEx with not problem at all. I have sent hundreds of packages by UPS but they are terrible.

...I, too, have had way too many problems with UPS so I have everything shipped FedEx if I can. I know B&H offers this so that's what I use when I order from them. I have the direct number to my local FedEx facility and as soon as I get the tracking number I call the nice lady there (she knows me by voice) and have the package held. When I get off work, I just stop by FedEx and sign for the package..that easy.

On the other hand the local UPS only has "walk-in" hours on weekdays from 2-4 PM...don't even know how they compete.

I had a similar experience. I paid for overnight UPS/ a.m. delivery from B & H, for a photo shoot that day. They shipped on time, but UPS (Santa Cruz, CA.) does not deliver a.m. first, its when ever they get around to it!!! So, I tracked down the UPS driver, who was being trained by a Supervisor, and was told that it was "just too bad", "thats the way it works in Santa Cruz". I filed a complaint with UPS, and the word back was "there is really nothing you can do", "these drivers and Supervisors are Union".

I ship and request Fed X now.

That's a bummer to wait for those guys. Even with FedEx you can't be absolutely certain that a mistake is not going to happen. Strange that they would miss the delivery, I've never had any problems with UPS. I would have to agree that I think FedEX is a better shipping service.

I took my MarkII, 24-70 and 550EX to be shipped to Irvine. After they heard that I was insuring it for $6,000. The manager came out and completely repackaged my equipment, using a new box, he put my equipment in this smaller, new box. Then wrapped that box in bubble wrap, placed it in my larger box that I had walked in with and then put air filled pastic filler and newspaper all around. He finally taped that outer box around and around with tons of tape. All for FREE! Of course, the next day air service to Irvine with insurance came to $76.00. So they got their money.

They normally don't do it, but he was concerned. And now I am going to choose FedEx whenever I get the chance.

Why do we still have these posts??? Take it up with the courier. So many threads have been posted in the past that you'd think people would learn from them already...

I didn't read any of those previous posts. And I think it's very natural, people get upset, and write something about it. Also, the poster already took it up with the courrier, so your reply is a bit off.

Why didn't you read the post title and just skip reading it. I do it all the time.

I got a box from UPS that wasn't beat to sh1t ... or late ... or both.

Everything goes by percentage..

For most people it seems, they have MORE problems with UPS then FedEx.. I have had more then 6 problems with UPS in just the last few months... I say 20% of all my UPS packages are late or damaged... With Fedex, I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER had a late package... I have had hundreds of Fedex packages shipped to me and many that I have had shipped.. The best part of Fedex is if you miss the shipment, you can pick it up the same day.. If you catch it early, they will reroute the driver for you.. Talk about service...

Some people in certain areas have better experiences with each service..

Airborne is pretty good also, never a problem.. I dont deal with as many shipments as I do with Fed or UPS

callous attitude, my Friday evening and complete weekend's plans
down the drain. They suck.

I think B&H also offers regular post office service -- presuming if
you miss delivery you can pick up at the local PO?
Post Offices close at what, 3pm? 4pm? Maybe 5:30pm if you're lucky.

FedEx terminals are accessible at 9pm and even later, if you get the dreaded "missed you" slip on the door.

Just try to find the local UPS dock, and if you can, just try to get the jerks inside to let you pull a box out of their sortage.

I haven't had any problem with B&H's use of UPS, but only because I'm in the neighboring state and the UPS driver is very predictable in my neighborhood.
For most people it seems, they have MORE problems with UPS then
FedEx.. I have had more then 6 problems with UPS in just the last
few months... I say 20% of all my UPS packages are late or
damaged... With Fedex, I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER had a late
package... I have had hundreds of Fedex packages shipped to me and
many that I have had shipped.. The best part of Fedex is if you
miss the shipment, you can pick it up the same day.. If you catch
it early, they will reroute the driver for you.. Talk about
service...

Some people in certain areas have better experiences with each
service..

Airborne is pretty good also, never a problem.. I dont deal with
as many shipments as I do with Fed or UPS
I ordered something (grrr not again) from B&H on 8/11. I wanted to
play with it this weekend so I paid extra money to have it sent 2
Day Air. The package reached Chantilly, VA on Friday 8/13 morning
and tracking status showed "5.02 a.m. out for delivery". I was on
tenterhooks all day, waiting for my purchase to show up. When it
didn't show up till 7.25 p.m. I called 1-800-PICKUPS who said they
could not reach the driver after 7:00 p.m. Fancy that. She said
that all packages will be delivered so I waited till 8:45 p.m.,
keeping another photog friend waiting (we were supposed to fire up
the grill and take pics of some sizzlin' ribeyes heh heh heh). The
package did not show so I left at 8:45 p.m. and went to his place.
I checked around 9.30 p.m. and their website said "Package Delivery
Missed".

I called B&H and they said they would call UPS. But I called UPS to
complain. They said they would have the local office call me on
Monday. I just received a call from someone who said that the
driver would deliver the package by evening. I asked why couldn't
the driver deliver the package now, she said "he's delivering next
day airs now". So I said "you messed up my second day delivery...
where's your service recovery?" She mumbled something about trying
to get in touch with the driver, and hung up.

So I called UPS Corporate Customer Service at (404) 828-4300 and
filed a complaint with a very nice lady who heard me out. She said
she would initiate a customer service complaint against the local
office.

I wish B&H/Henry Posner would listen to all the complaints against
UPS and just switch over to a more reliable carrier. Thanks to UPS'
callous attitude, my Friday evening and complete weekend's plans
down the drain. They suck.

I use Fedex first, then UPS. I stopped using Airborne last year when they lost a package I sent and made the insurance claim process a joke. First they told me it was delivered, then they backtracked when my customer called them directly and they could not produce a signature or proof of delivery. Then they said the address was wrong, which it was not. Then they claimed I failed to declare the extra value, which I did and thank God I keep all receipts. I eventually got paid but only after numerous calls and letters. After my experience with Airborne, I'll never use them again.

USPS is the most inconvenient, user unfriendly organizaition I've ever dealt with. They simply don't care.
